Hey guys, so I know many of you know about the bubbling in the headlights after modding them. I confirmed that it is indeed the sun beaming off of the project lens. I'm going to do this until I decide on what I need to do. I hate over lays but I'm think it can help. Maybe tinting the outside will weaken the sun before it gets to the projector lens. What do you guys think?

For example, on my last trip to Vegas cruising around 80 mph the entire time I drove a little over 250 miles on less than 8 gallons. I can't recall the exact amount it took to refill the tank, but I think the actual calculation came out to be just a little over 32 miles per gallon.Sounds like it would probably be useful for other members then. I'll try and take some more detailed pictures when I do the driver's side tuck and then I can put together a full DIY.Good deal! That's very cheap for a retune. "Almost" makes me wish I still lived in Ohio.
Also, the gloss black roof looks amazing!

Oh man the 80s RC tech vs today's is night and day. I didn't start seriously into it until mid 2000s and even from there til now is worlds apart. You will never see another Nicd pack anywhere including Rx packs or radio transmitters. Ninth are pretty rare too with how cheap lipos are now. Lipos hold their nominal voltage throughout the entire discharge cycle and then literally stop working completely. It's 100% or nothing basically. Nimh you can feel a gradual power decline from the first lap and may get 10mins out of a pack. Now you can run for an hour straight on smaller brushless motors (yes brushes are gone too!) and never lose any speed.
Also get 100mph straight out of the box with some 1/8 scale vehicles running huge motors and 22.2v. That's actual mph, not scaled. 😳

Very cool stuff! I was really big into R/C cars back in the 80's. I raced 1/10th scale off-road (started with an RC10 then went to a JRS2) and even had a full ride (sponsorship) from Team Losi, Novak, and several other companies. I did as well as finishing 1st in the B-Main at the National Championships one year. Back then we mostly used NiCad batteries and even some NiMH batteries, but I bet if you get them to discharge fast enough the Lithium batteries are probably the way to go now.
Hahaha. That picture was actually taken at the shop that did the roof wrap (he does all of my clear bra work and window tinting). Below is another picture showing the Carrera GT that was parked in his other garage! These types of exotic cars are a lot more common here in SoCal than in most other parts of the country, so you'd be surprised how often you see them. One of the guys in my car club even has a McLaren and also just bought a Lamborghini Huracan!

Only thing I know for sure is that it's from the sun beaming off of the projector.

I also got my headlights painted black and noticed it bubbling big time.
I have sti-r projector lenses installed. I didn't realize it was from the sun. How did you find that out? Makes sense though.

I had my car on Ramps yesterday while finishing my exhaust. We'll having the rear a foot higher in the air changed the angle of the lens. So I watched to see what would happen. At the hottest point of the day. There was a beam bouncing off the lens on to the black housing that was so bright that I couldn't even see the black paint underneath it. I covered the sunlight with my hand and here was a perfect bubble in the shape of the glare/beam. It goes past the ribbed part too. I think the factory chrome bounces the reflection off again and dissipates heat. Painting it black just makes it take in all the heat I guess :-/ FML
When i got my G headlights painted it bubbled within 1 month.

Sometime ago , I wondered if maybe getting the chrome housings sand blasted first would help prior to priming them and painting ?

wow I'm glad to know I'm not the only one suffering from the bubbling. I have StiR lens myself. I thought it was from my headlights pointing too low. The chromed plastic under the paint is melted.

Sorry to jump late to the convo but yes I can confirm the bubbling is from the projector lens, especially clear ones, I confirmed it like a year ago when I got my headlights done by ONEighty and spoke with Alex - the owner several times, he said it only happens on our sedans, they supposedly do have some sort of a fix for that I think to space out the projector shroud a little further out or something like that if I recall my last conversation with him correctly. They always do leave that little ribbed portion of the housing chrome indeed , it somewhat helps but bubbling can be seen a little but hardly in surrounding areas as well I'm guessing if the headlights had been exposed to the sun at an unusual angle over a longer period of time .

Perhaps it's as simple as putting something over the lenses if you're forced to park it outside on a hot, sunny summer's day. When I get my lenses painted, I'm definitely going to remember this.
