I feel ya!

For a little over a year now I haven't needed to drive on the weekdays. When the week is over I get pretty excited, not only for the weekend but also for the drive.

In the winter I first clear off the snow around the driver's door, open the door, sit down, pop it into neutral, hit the start button twice (to give the fuel pump a moment to build pressure), press the clutch in and hit the start button. The sound of the my car turning on is pretty awesome. Ever since I removed the heat shields on my cats, the car sounds even better at start up, much smoother (placebo perhaps). In the winter, the snow muffles other ambient noises and I just hear the burble of the G's engine. I usually hop back out and clear off the rest of the snow while enjoying the fast idle and then normal idle. After loading up the car, I just enjoy the pleasure of driving after abstaining for a week. No music required.

Last winter I let my car sit for 3 extremely cold weeks. The day I fired my car up and drove was glorious.

Left the wife's Honda at my mechanic's for the day... coolant flush, gear oil, brake fluid and pads. However, in the list of things I asked him to do, instead of writing "caliper pads", I wrote "calipers on all four corners".

Now imagine how I felt when he called me to say the job was done.

fck me.

So do you have to change much out in order to change out brake calipers? These stoptech calipers have really caught my attention.

That is very, very attractive hardware. After the fact, I bet you could sell your Akebono calipers for a decent amount, too.

That's kind of what I was thinking. I'm just not sure if it would be plug and play or if there is more to it than that.

Almost looks like the brembo brakes that Cadillac is using for their Sport Package.

But lots nicer. There's a raw, tough-azz element to exposing the bolt-heads, and doing so with thick allen-head bolts in a polished finish. However, if you look real close on that picture, notice there is a stamp of some designation around the perimeter surface of those bolts. I wonder how that would look with clean faced, polished titanium bolts? Certainly would never have to worry about corrosion in the typical sense.

This would look much better, IMO:

Agreed. They're really good looking, but was just quoted $4800 for front and rear calipers, so for now I think I'll pass.

They're not plug-n-play, you'll need the brackets, 2 piece rotors, and brake lines.
Here's the Wilwood F&R equivalent, the 2 piece rotors are SO tasty
Wilwood High Performance Disc Brakes - 2009 Infiniti G37 - Front Brake Kit No.: 140-11583-DR
Wilwood High Performance Disc Brakes - 2009 Infiniti G37 - Rear Brake Kit No.: 140-9507-DR

Are the Wilwood BBKs reasonably priced?

My niece, who is 5 years old, heard my exhaust yesterday for the first time and she said, "that's a beautiful sound!" I laughed and pondered many years of enjoying car stuff with her. She already wants a GT-R.

It's about $1600 for the complete front and $1500 for the rear, although I'm not sure if lines are included
Those 2 piece rotors/hats are about $400 each so that's about half the price right there.
I guess it depends what you'd consider reasonable, IMO they're very reasonable but I still couldn't convince my wife that they are

Well Mike has betrayed the VQ family and sold his G and bought a Jeep... We must disown him...

So the Wilwood BBK set is about half the cost of the Stoptech set. Looks like it comes with lines as well. Can you select different color calipers? I don't mind the red, but I do really like the silver like the Stoptechs.

The have black

And you could always call their tech line, they're really good about asking questions. They may be able to finish it in silver. They DO have other silver calipers that may work in its place

What are the benefits of the Stoptech or Wilwood calipers over the OE Akebonos?

It would seem that if you are looking for a functional upgrade, something with 6 piston front and 4 piston rears would be the way to go.
