Finally (!!!) got my failing outer tie-rod end replaced this morning. The OEM piece was most certainly loose. Yikes! My mechanic has a theory: since the car was bought with less than 4000 miles on it, and was essentially new, he suspects the tie-rod boot was damaged during shipment, by a tie-down strap hook. And it took the last 18K miles and 3 years for water and crap to work its way into the joint, to where it started to fail this Spring.

Pretty good theory. Anyway, now to get the car aligned. (Whoops, that won't happen until Thursday. Oh well.)

Any thoughts on how long a spring install on a G37X Sedan would take?
I was quoted 3-4 hours. Seems a little high.

A good shop will do it in 2 hours for $150-$200. Typical though is 3 to 4 hours at $300 to $400.

Or you can do it on your own and then hate yourself for doing so 8 hours later.

I figured it was 2 hours, but I am getting quoted for 3-4 from all of the "name brand" shops in the area.

If you think about it, it pretty much depends on the mechanic's familiarity with this particular job on your make/model car. If they've done it a few times on the G37x, then 2 hours. Otherwise, can't fault them for estimating 3-4.

Estimation is really more guidelines than rules.

Agreed. But when a shop advertises "nissan and infiniti specialist" across the banner on their homepage, and focuses on those points, you would assume it wouldnt be more than 3 hours for a simple spring install.

My shop did the install in about two hours and that was with the alignment and the test drive. My shop had done a TON of G's and Z's plus the really high end stuff, so they had some experience. Book out times are guidlines as Rochester stated.

Took me about 4 hours in my garage and this included installing F&R camber arms and the rear elongated toe bolt cuts. Should be a two hour job for a shop w/ a lift.

I suspected as much.
This is without an alignment.
Either way, I will most likely pony up and just pay it. I dont know Nissans as much as subarus
I won't call out the shop name out of respect (I also suspect it might be against forum rules).
I did call around and got quoted 3 hours instead of 4.

LEDs make a night and day difference on the headlights and tail lights and boy do they look neat when illuminated.

I finally got around to installing Switchbacks for my headlights and RED LEDs for my rear turn signals. I ordered a few extra sets of 50W 6Ohm resistors (5 extra pairs to be exact) so let me know if you are in need of resistors. They will come with the correct size t-taps.
