Rear View Mirror front facing camera options

Well my G37x was smashed up on Tuesday by some old woman that ran a red light. I'm so fed up with the drivers on my daily commute. Speeding 90+ MPH, Racing with cars on the highway, cutting people off, passing on the shoulder, etc. The list goes on and on.

I'm looking for a solution to buy and mount some kind of small camera under my rear view mirror or behind it. I don't want to replace anything in my car. Just add something. I want to be able to record my daily commute which is about 20 minutes 1 way.

Anyone know of any good solutions?

GoPro. Hardwire a power source and you're good to go. Anything else, you will have to get some sort of system to dump the video to from your camera. I've used my Hero 3 for this exact purpose in the past and it does work well. Get this + 64GB microSD and you'll be able to record for hours and hours without tapping out.

You could also look into a Flip HD cam or something like that - might find a good deal on eBay or Craigslist.

EDIT:
Found something like this as well. Looks pretty interesting and would work well. I like the size of it

I don't know how big those go pros are and was looking for more of a sleek design made specifically for cars. Those go pros are a little big more than I wanted to spend. Looking for something under $100.

I added a link to a close-to USB stick sized camera in my last post.

I also found this a few minutes ago - only if you posted a few days ago this would have been an option. It looks pretty cool and for the price and features, might be something you look into for the future.

Google gave a few results, I searched a bit because I've been somewhat interested in getting one of these as well.

This guy seems to have reviewed a ton of small video cameras that would work:

this one also looked ok:

Thanks guys. Keep them coming and I'll check them out when I get home as I can't view them at work.

I would prefer to have something mounted behind or close to the bottom of my rear view mirror. I don't really want anything on my dash. Not sure about wiring or power. If something would have a recharable battery that would be best I guess.

Does anyone have any info on the Lucas LK-7900 ACE. This one seems to be a winner but larger. I can't seem to find any pics of one mounted in a car to see the size of it.

One other question on running the wires for these types of cameras. How are they doing it. Going to the cigarette lighter or some other power source and how are you guy running the wires. With the side curtain airbags they state don't jam wires in there.

I'd take it to a stereo shop and have them install a stealth cord hard wired up to the rear view mirror power lead.

The links I posted above are all very small and mount discretely behind the rear view mirror.

If you have a limo company by you ask the mechanic what cams they use. A friend of mine worked for a high end limo company and they had little cameras mounted on the mirror. The company started doing this to help with accident reports. It kept the drivers in check and they had a video if the car was in accident. It helped them to keep premiums down.

Since I only have about 1 year remaining on the lease, and it was smashed up, I will be turning the car back in and getting a new one. So If I can run the wire myself and save some money it would help. I will look into these more when I get my car back.

Great choice. That's my review/site and i still have the BlackVue, it's worked flawlessly and has already paid for itself at least once (supposedly didn't stop completely at a stop sign, proved otherwise.)

How did you hardwire it to the battery/fuse instead of using the cigarrette adapter? Any quick tutorial on that?

Thanks in advance.
