they are the rubber hangars. It is what suspends your muffler/exhaust assembly. If they were made out of metal, it would rattle and vibrate. The rubber allows a small amount of play to your exhaust without letting it damage anything.

He is 100% right. I work at the Toyota plant in Georgetown KY and I install exhaust systems for Camrys and Venzas and we use those hangers from the front pipe all the way to the tail pipe. It gives the exhaust system some give when the car hits a bump.

I have always wondered: why does the exhaust piping near the rear if the Camry hang so darn low? They look almost like they're broken.
Sound dampers. Removes any vibrations in the exhuast. You also have 2 more on the Y-pipe.
I guess it depends on which rubber things are being discussed. Both responses are correct.
The one that the muffler is hanging from - well...it's the muffler hanger.
The one that is just kind-of there - it's the vibration damper...not exactly sure how that works, but yeah - it's there. And as mentioned - there are 2 more on the Y-Pipe...
THANKS!!! I know of the rubber hangers, so that was not my question. Your description of those things that are "just there" attached to each muffler and Y pipe as sound dampeners makes sense. Any idea HOW they work?

I've wondered the same. They do not support anything....they are just 'hanging out'...
Drive behind any late model Camry or Lexus ES. You'll see how low it hangs below the car.
They've been that way since the early 90's when they up sized and rounded out the car...92 or 93. Passenger side, right in front of the wheel, the pipe dips way down. It almost looks like it would scrape going over a speedbump.
