Cut off muffler on one side
Hey guys, I looked through a bunch of threads but couldn't find an answer to this. I have a 2013 G37x sedan, and was wondering how it would sound if I just cut the muffler off one side and had a straight pipe installed, but left the other side with the stock muffler attached. I'm afraid that cutting both mufflers off will make the care way too loud, I'm looking for a little more noise than stock. Thanks in advance, looking to make a decision soon.

One side? :/
Im guessing that would sound a bit weird. Why not just change one part of the exhaust instead?
I saw a video of a guy that did a muffler delete and it sounded pretty nice.
Search for g37 muffler delete on youtube and check to see if that is the sound you want.

Sorry, I know it sounds kind of weird to ask such a question, but the reason why I'm asking is because I don't want the exhaust to be too loud. Since we have a muffler on each side, I was curious as to how that will sound with one cut off and the other one still attached.

As I'm about to demonstrate, I'm no engineer... but it seems to me a component of engine noise is the resonance frequency of the exhaust. If you mess with one side unevenly to the other, are there any negative repercussions (no pun) to engine efficiency?

Since the exhaust has a Y pipe and isn't a true dual exhaust I don't think it'd end up harming the engine in any way. Might sound odd, or potentially create some drone. I figure the gas follows the least path of resistance so the one without the muffler might have more flow going to it.
After having an exhaust system on my previous car, I find I really enjoy having it quiet sometimes, especially when driving in hilly areas, the noise gets old fast. I've debated before about installing some electric cutouts for when I feel like some engine noise. Something similar to these, but think we need 2.25".
Haven't done much research on the topic, but I like the idea of being able to adjust the sound on a whim.

Good thinking, oBLamb-Kenobi.
