G37 to continue through 2015
Surprised there hasn't been more discussion on the announcement from Infiniti that the G37 sedan will continue to be sold alongside the Q50 for another two years. The Q50 does seem to be a bit bigger- almost between the M37/56 and the G, so the G37 seems to fill a lineup niche that Infiniti needs to fill.
The current G will be one of the longest serving models in the lineup. I'm taking this announcement as a compliment to the G37 as the car still looks fresh and sharp in today's automotive landscape.

I think that's a wise move by Infiniti, continue offering the G while testing the market on the Q. Should the market for the Q prove unsuccessful, they can continue production of their flagship G into the future.

I was told the reason Infiniti is going to continue selling the G37 for 2 more years is because they have a stockpile of parts to allow them to keep building it. Also the price is supposed to be lowered a bit to give customers a reason to buy it over the Q50.

Thanks for posting those links, BLamb. I'm sure I'm not the only one that unfortunately has limited time to read this forum. I'm lucky to get on here once or twice a week and it's easy to miss certain threads. We appreciate the gentle encouragements to read already covered topics that we might have missed.

As an old automotive purist, I was disappointed to discover there is no analog clock on the Q50. These clocks have been a signature item on every Infiniti model since the inception of the brand. (sigh) -- So much for tradition.

I think it is because of the G37 is more of a driver's car than Q50. Based on MT's impression, not very positive even they may not admit explicitly, I would not trade my G for the Q. Infiniti apparently knows that too.

I don't understand why car manufacturers these days insist that every model in their line up must follow the same design cues. Talk about lack of imagination. German carmakers are notorious for that but they have that cache that means their cars always sell well, other manufacturers don't have that luxury. If you're fortunate enough to find that winning design that attracts the market, you dont deep six it to make it look like every other car in your lineup. You evolve it. Infiniti and Chevy is making that mistake and looks like Ford is about to with the Stang.
I'm not sure what to make of the G37 being continued for 2 more years but no matter how you slice it, that can't be good for Infiniti's faith in the Q50. Its almost like they are aiming for different markets with these cars. The Q50 for techheads who just want a comfortable competent ride and the G37 for people who want to have fun with their sports sedan. I just can't see the point of the Q60 coupe being released if it shares the same dynamics as the Q50 with little engine growl and numb handling and feel.
Does anybody think there's a chance that the G37 nameplate will live on after 2015 and Infiniti will introduce a new version thats geared toward enthusiasts? That would be fantastic because I have little desire to buy a Q50, just from reviews I know it won't be my cup of tea, I'm even afraid to test drive one because I don't want to feel first hand how they made this into their version of a Camry.

I agree. There’s also Buick eliminating those trademark side holes, Cadillac dropping their fins, and even Pontiac years ago abandoning those “silver streaks” that identified the car for 30 years.
