I am pretty much sure it is not true, you need to do some hardware hacking to disable the AWD. The VDC is just turning off traction/stability controls, your rear brakes may last longer without it.

Turning the VDC off does not disable the AWD. Of course, the AWD does nothing anyway unless the rear tires start slipping. I have no desire to burn donuts ... just to shift for myself.

Living here in New England and with all the snow/rain climate we get...I'm glad I got my G37xS!
Even with the stock All-Season Dunlop Tires wasn't bad through the winter blizzard, due to having AWD helped.
With a few basic suspension mods, my xS handles pretty close to an S, I presume.

I owned an 07X, four years, with a modified suspension and it didn't handle like my S. The added front weight makes it feel noticeably different the second you get behind the wheel and drive.

Can't even find a 6MT sedan here in Colorado. When I talked to the Denver dealers, they say they would bring one in for me but I have to sign on the dotted line first. They claim RWD and a manual in a sedan just doesn't sell in Colorado, so they don't want them on the lots. Funny, I notice that Nissan has no trouble selling 370Z's here - manual or auto.

However, most Infiniti dealerships have at least one G37S 6MT Coupe. So go drive the Coupe, then order the Sedan.

It really is pretty cool how quickly a dual-clutch setup will shift on-command. But without a clutch pedal, 99.9% of the time you'll just leave it in Drive.
Flappy paddles, or ratchet-shifting, on a semi-automatic is more sales gimmick than purpose driven, IMO. The people who will try and tell you differently are either selling you something, or selling themselves something, or are actually on the track with a track-ready car... but not with a DD.

And this is coming from a guy who has been driving for 31 years, and has only driven an auto my first year driving and my last 5 years. It's not the same as a stick but it's a pretty good compromise that I have no issues living with. I like to think of the floppy paddle shift like all season tires. A good compromise all year round. And for the record that's a compromise I don't make. Right now my summer tires are on, and in the fall I mount my blizzaks.

Finally got the chance to test drive a 2012 G37S sedan with 6MT. What can I say? Wow!
The ride and feel is solid and firm, but not jarring stiff that feels like your kidneys want to come out of your mouth. The sound of the motor is glorious! I didn't want to push it too hard, but I could tell that it would have easily laid down rubber.
I loved the solid feel of the steering wheel. Just loved it. Comparing this to the 2010 G37xS, although the xS was nice, the 37S is a sports car in sedan clothing.

I've just started playing with VDC on my 2012 G37x. I've noticed is that the throttle response seems much sharper with VDC off but I can think of no reason why that would be. Any ideas?

I have the g37xs coupe and love it. Although I have always loved AWD. I can take corners quicker then any of the g37s coupes and even faster then the 370z's out here, so I love it!
