about 90% of all certified pre owned vehicles on my lot have had over 2k worth of reconditioning plus the certification which costs an extra 899 to put on it. So lets say you negotiated for 23k on trade in. Then they spent 2k on recon. then plus the certification, they are in the car at that point for almost 26k. Then they list is at 28,999. Who here pays sticker for their car? No one, so lets sey they negotiate to 27k. Profit of 1k is not really that much if you think about it, break that down to a 25-30% commision rate,250-300 commision. Then take that and multiply by average industry sales of 10 per month, 2500-3000 . Sales people work hard and long hours and do deserve to get paid, we are not all scum sucking liars out to rip you off There are some though hahaha

CPO is $900 now? I thought it was $800.

I'm curious what kind of reconditioning is worth $2K. Figure brakes, tires and fluids at maybe $600 give or take. That leaves 10-15 labor hours, yes? What exactly would a tech do with two days of CPO work?

Just saying, $2K seems high.

This was entirely my point. Well said. I'm not sure (no offense to the OP) if some of these people are just really young, and poorly informed? The only advantage in trading or selling a car to a dealer, is to avoid the trouble (if that's what you call it) of doing it oneself. But you're PAYING for that "convenience" at the tune of anywhere from 10-20% the value of the car.

Out of personal curiosity, what typically goes into that $2k worth of reconditioning? My guess for that kind of money would have to include stuff like (Tires, detailing, floor mats, filter/oil changes, alignment, maybe brakes). There's dealer markup in all those areas though. I'd rather the dealer not put any cash into it, lower the price $2k and let me pick out my own tires, brakes, floor mats, etc.

Then again most of us here aren't the "typical customer". I agree not all salesmen are bad, the good ones are just few and far between. It's nice to see the salesmen on these forums, at least your a car guy and won't tell me "you probably know more about the car than I do".

Wow $36K for a 6MT, I am sure no way you could get that much off MSRP on a 7AT, no wonder Infiniti no longer wants to make a MT. But when you loaded up an X, I am pretty surely it close to $44K OTD.

OTD is taxes and fees. That's a different number entirely, particularly in NY. Even more so in NYC.

And yeah, the AWD adds a couple grand for the G37xS, while quite ironically taking away the features that actually make it "Sport" worthy. I've always found that a rather entertaining observation.

Anyway, yes, $36k to $37k is the average new-car sale price for the Sedan 6MT over the last few years for people who can negotiate, and for dealers willing to do so.

Haha yep, beat me to it!

FWIW, I got my G37S 7at with illuminated kickplates, trunk mat, first aid kit, paint protection, and tint for $36.4k. Sticker was like $44k. Even more impressive is the fact it was at a no haggle dealership that gave me $2k more on my trade than other offers. So I like to think I got it for $34.4k

The '12 G37s was more like a 41K car at your equipment level, but still pretty good at $36K.

most cars lose most of their value the first five years.

if you bought this car (or any other car) with the intentions of selling it 2-4 years later you will lose money.

A car is just a car. It loses value quickly.

I could be wrong but mine was certified pre-owned and I believe I paid 26.5 out the door, 50 something thousand miles and the floor mats were definitely not new. While I was searching I found a lot of cars around that price from individuals here in Texas but went with dealer since it has the certified warranty. I did offer 22-23 to a couple private sellers and was turned down and a few weeks later after I purchased this one they called me back willing to negotiate more.

Mine's got a $44k sticker, still have it tucked away in my owners manual.

They list the MSRP at $44,965, same color, options, etc mine had except mines a '12 bought last February. Maybe pricing is different by dealer/region?

I am sure there are sales folks that bust their backsides to make their numbers but come on $1K on a used car? Are they selling to themselves? Everyone knows the profit levels on used cars are much more lucrative than new car sales on any lot.

What $2K reconditioning? Actual parts or service dept majority labor?

^^ Sorry, believe your sticker not my memory, it was from an year and half ago when I did my shopping.But it's hard to believe it would have that high MSRP.
