Squeaky motorized steering column...

I have a 2009 G37S.
EXTREMELY low mileage, but about three weeks ago, out of the blue, the steering column started to make a loud squeak for the first degree or two of travel, whenever I would start the ignition. We have the convenience feature turned on, so the seat and wheel move out of the way, and back.

It's weird, because it just started to happen all of a sudden, but it does it every single time now.

Has anyone else had a problem like this? I've got five-more months of warranty, so I could potentially take it in. But I'm loathe to have a dealer start ripping things out of the dash.

Thanks.

Quick addendum to my first post above.
My squeak ONLY occurs when the motorized column is moving in or out of position, upon start-up or shutdown.

It does NOT make a sound once in position while driving, even over rough pavement. At least not yet...

I have the exact same problem. It started last summer, but was intermittent. Mentioned it to the dealer last time I brought my car in, but they couldn't replicate it. The reason is, it's been much colder than usual the past few months. I'm sure that when it starts warming up, it'll start squeeking again.

When I told my service consultant, he said that either something fell through the gap and is getting stuck, or some bearing needs to be lubricated.

I'll reply back when I get them to look at it. They told me it's a pretty serious ordeal since they have to remove the dash to get to behind the steering mechanism.

Previous owner had this done to my car and it is quite common. They simply lubricate the tracks. I believe the procedure is pretty easy.

Thanks. Ironically, ours only started doing it right now, when the whether got cold here in LA.
Out of curiosity, how many miles did you have on yours when it started? Ours only has 27K.

I'm sure the lubrication portion is a snap. But getting to it is the big unknown. I have yet to see a car with a logically assembled dash. It's like having to tear the entire iPhone 4 apart just to replace a cracked front screen.

Mine actually started 2 summers ago... so maybe exactly where you are now ~30k. Funny that your squeaks when it's cold. I'm in Los Angeles (if that's what you meant by LA), and when it get hot, it get MUCH worse. I know that in the middle of last summer, I had to turn off the function where it moves back when you turn off the engine. I had it literally get stuck 2-3 times, and I told myself that I didn't want to damage the system, so I turned it off.

Mine started with a squeak, then a shudder, then finally complete seizing after moving about 2". I do have the steering wheel setup where it's as close to me as possible (telescoped all the way out), and as low as possible. So, when I turn the car off, the distance is has to move is pretty much all the way in and all the way up.

I should be servicing my car soon, and the squeak has started back up. I'll see if they can work on it again, otherwise, it'll be another couple months until they can get their hands on it.

Interesting. I wonder if that's been an issue for others, too?
Yes, Los Angeles. I'll have to see if it gets better or worse as the weather heats up once winter is done. Ultimately, I may just disable the whole function, too. I've never really been that big a fan of the feature, as I figured it potentially reduced the lifespan of the motors in the seat and column. Looks like that may be partially true.

I took my 09 G37 in to get the starter replaced and when i got the car back the steering column was making that squealing noise. I don’t know why they even went into my dashboard when all i needed was a starter replaced, yet here we are. I was wondering if anyone ever had a solution to this. Was it just Lubricating the track or did it need new bearing or something or is it possible there’s something stuck on the track? Any info will help. Thankyou
