G37 Totaled??

Unfortunately I was hit nearly head on as this guy was turning left but turned into my lane, both air bags deployed there was water leaking everywhere but Thankfully we were all ok and able to get out of our vehicles....Just purchased this car ~7-8 weeks ago only ~1100 miles on it still had the new car smell and now I'm not so sure this car will ever be the same even if Insurance decides to fix it...Any thoughts would be appreciated if this car is salvageable, it only happened a couple nights ago Thanks

First off I'm glad you're okay and were able to walk away from the accident, I'm sorry about your G. Its hard to tell if it's totalled, but it looks like the axle could be broken, but I'm not sure.

Keep us updated.

Thank god you're ok. I will ask for a new car from insurance company if possible. I would not want to deal with repair issues down the road, nothing is good as new. Good luck.

Damn, that's horrible but glad everyone walked away. Like mentioned above, sure hope you get a new car out of this, really kills the whole new-car experience but it's all in the hands of the insurance provider. Good Luck & let us know how it goes.

BTW, welcome to the site, sorry that had to be your first posting

Glad you're ok. It all depends on the total damage. You can't just ask the insurance for a new car. I believe your total damage needs to be within a certain percentage of the book value, if not exceeding it, to get a new car. I was rear ended on the freeway last year and my total damage was $18,000. They wouldn't total it because the book value was $27k at the time.

I work for insurance and as per insurance regulation for a vehicle to be a total loss, the damages need to be more than 75% of the market value of the vehicle. Now there are some exceptions to this because certain insurance companies have stated policies where you pay certain premium in order to get a certain amount of money back in an accident. Meaning that you pay a bit more to get the same year or newer veh in an accident, no matter what the percentage of damages. Good luck with everything.

Thanks everyone for your feedback I guess I will learn more this coming week so far Insurance has handled things ok I guess, the accident happened after 9pm I was given a rental by noon the next day. We released the car from tow yard to be taken to auto repair shop and adjuster should be out to see it soon I hope I hear something soon...

Obviously a hard hit, but can't really tell the extent of damage until they get into things a bit. My guess it won't be totaled, but when they start working on it they will find undisclosed damage that will likely push the $$$ much higher than initial estimates. Good luck....its always a good day when you can walk away from a major accident.

Because my car hasn't been towed to an auto body shop should I have it towed to an infiniti dealership for repairs and have insurance adjuster go there instead of the body shop they suggested??? Thanks

You should have it taken to whatever body shop you trust to have your car repaired. If you trust the Infiniti dealership then yes have it towed there. If you want another body shop to do the repairs then have it towed there (and make sure you request the body shop to use only OEM parts). Don't settle for what the insurance company wants. Especially if you're going through the insurance of person who hit you.

It's the insurance companies job to have your car moved to where you want it moved. Make sure they are aware you're moving it to a repair facility, also that they will pay for the tow. If it's at a tow yard the insurance company is accruing storage fees, they would love for you to move the car to a repair facility.

Hope your car comes back as close to new as possible.

Still waiting on final estimate however the auto repair shop says they estimate ~17,000 just by looking at it externally, they haven't torn it apart yet to see what other damage it has internally they are waiting to hear from insurance company to see if they want auto shop to go that far with the estimate. Any thoughts, maybe a possible salvage
