Low range on fuel gas tank after accident

Recently somebody hit my G37 Sedan 2011 from back. I got it repaired at the body shop where they changed rear bumper, moved rear frame of the car to proper position since trunk was not closing after accident. The car has 9000 miles on it. Before the repair I remember(vaguely) that on filling gas tank to full it used to show 400 miles as the range. However after the repair I see around 320 miles as the range.

My car gives mileage of around 20 and my driving habits/path has not changed after accident.

Can someone please let me know if this issue with sensor measuring mileage or something else? Thanks.

20mpg*20g=400miles, subtracting the reserve ~4g*20mpg=80mi......=320miles. Seems about right to me.

Mine full range is always 400+ , yours definitely is not right. Is there any changes to how much gas needed to fill up the tank? The accident might have deformed your tank, or knocked the fuel gauge senor out of alignment.

reset your ECU. That might work.

Yesterday I tried to fill the gas to full. After it was 3/4 full, I could not fill more gas as the automatic sensor on gas pump kicked in. However I went again to different gas pump and I could fill it to full. I am not sure whether it is gas pump issue or my car issue.

The gas tank could have been damaged/dented. I ran over a damn 2x4 a year after I got my 2010 and it put a nice big dent in the tank from right below the fuel pump inside. Once I got just below a 1/2 tank, the needle would drop suddenly to empty, only after 150-175 miles or so.

I had to take out my back seat, pull out the fuel pump, stick a 2x4 down in the tank and hammer it back down so I'd get accurate readings again.

I'd get your gas tank checked for any damage.

Really. So after fillup everyone shows the 400 mile counter?
Every fillup for me has always shown 385, or 380.

I find it depends on your recent driving history. If you drove in the traffic a lot recently, you might get lower estimate.

^ Gives some people hope I get the same 27-28 with hwy driving at 70mph but the city driving kills the avg pretty quick. I'll never complain about it though.
What happened to the latest reading...haven't hit the hwy yet I presume.

I am getting back my car today from the body shop. They said they could not fix it and asked me to drive around on hwy for more time to see if it can resolve the issue. They checked if there was any leak in gas tank, removed sensor and again placed it but everything was good.

Any idea what else can go wrong? Should I reset ECU?
