G25

I took it to the dealership to have it clay barred because they offered to do it for me for free when I took it in to have them look at the rust spots on my bumper and on the trunk lid. Plus I don't have the free time to clay bar it myself or somewhere to do it, that's the down side to living in an apartment...

I took my car in to have them service and clay bar it and they gave me G25x. I didn't take a look when I got in the car to see if it was a 37 or 25, so I left and immediately I could tell that there is no way its a 37, which is what their loaner fleet is mostly made up of. To say that I can see why the 25 was discontinued would be an understatement, that car has absolutely no power. I had to lay down on the pedal kind of hard to pull into traffic and I felt like I had to get out and push to get up to speed. I was surprised to find out that it only has 218hp... They should have just come out with a 2.0 V4 instead. Maybe they will with the new generation G.

No G25 available today. They gave me another G37x, like the last loaner car. Oh well.
The car is much more soft than my 6MT, with a fair amount of lift in the bumps. And there's more roll in the turns, which is probably more due to the tires than the suspension. The steering is noticeably less sharp, too, although the little brakes feel fine to me.
But this 7AT...yuck! When in manual mode, the slapstick (a.k.a. ratchet shifter) takes FREAKING FOREVER to switch gears. It's so slow, IDK why they bother. And if you let it choose its own gear under hard acceleration, it's anybody's guess what it's going to do. It's a very unpleasant experience compared to a proper manual transmission.
I will say this, though: when you launch it HARD out of the hole and directly into a corner, the AWD keeps me going wherever I point it. It does that very, very well. I'm torn between feeling both confident and bored at the same time. I suppose mostly I'm bored.

It's worked so far. I know they mean well but dealers have no business wiping my ride down with the wire brush or whatever it is they use. Most dealers bring in an independent detailer for the bigger jobs so that may be a bit better, but like was said earlier once you learn how to detail your own ride it is a nice way to spend a few hours. Almost therapeutic, and not at all a chore.

Don't mean to revive a dead one, but I drove a G25 home from the dealer as a loaner yesterday.
Jesus, this thing was a colossal piece of ****. I was excited to have a sedan for a day or so but not if it is going to be this slug. Not a shocker at all that they discontinued these.

Well in all honesty after I created this thread I went back and did some research about the G25 and I think we all hate it because we've driven the G37. No matter what car you own if you drive the car with a bigger engine and more features first then go and drive the model with the smaller engine you're bound to hate it. If you had driven the G25 before the G37 you might have a different opinion about it. Its like driving an M5 and then going and driving a 5 series. (not that the G37 is comparable to an M5, just trying to get a point across). I gained more of a respect for the G25 after watching this Youtube clip.

The 328i, A4 2.0T and G25 all seem to me as reasonably comparable cars... until you option them out and look at the cost. Suddenly they aren't so equal any more.
Then you look at them from a cost POV, and swap in the G37 instead of the G25. Suddenly the G is top-dog.

Exactly, plus the G25 was Infiniti's first attempt at the extreme entry level. Trying to compare to cars like BMW 328i, Audi A4 2.0T, and Mercedes C250 who have all pretty much perfected it, so to speak, and Infiniti is still new to the game. Give them the amount of time that BMW, Audi, and Mercedes has had to perfect their entry level cars and I bet Infiniti would be able to compete better with them.

Yeah it was their first shot, sure they will get it right next time... But I had a 25 as a loaner before as well and yeah it was a terrible drive.... It was torture driving that thing for a week, got back into my coupe and it was like heaven.

i have a subscription to C&D. i read that article with interest to see how the G25 would do. the premise was to compare the entry-level models of the respective carmakers. sounds fair, right? it would have been, if models of equivalent options were compared taking the cost into consideration. sure, the "base" model costs of the cars were similar, but to equip the cars equally creates a significant spread. in particular the BMW and C250 and A4.
looking at the "as-tested" prices, C&D could have easily slotted the G37 in from a price point of view. unfortunately, that would have broken the false premise of the test. there was a ton of discussion and feedback that C&D had to answer to on this test. the point was acknowledged, but they defended the idea of testing the smaller-engine models as entry level examples of the brand.
if the G37 had been used in the test, costing the same as the others, it would have run away with the performance tests. would it have won? maybe, maybe not. it would have finished higher than 4th that's for sure. but is it better than the 328? that's another question. why don't we start a new thread to discuss that topic? lol!
