[QUOTE=Rochester;3538632]Yeah, um, no. I've lived in Upstate NY for 48 years. I know snow. Snow tires and responsible driving behavior is all you need. However, I will say this... if you have lots of hills to climb in snow & ice (around here, Syracuse comes to mind), then AWD would be a welcome feature. Otherwise, nah. Marketing.
QUOTE]

I respectfully disagree. I test drove the regular G and then the x and I felt the difference in traction. Plus the fact my wife drives the car most of the time, the peace of mind is worth it for me. To each his own, I guess.

I get that. Bought the wife a Volvo twelve years ago after we had our first child. Is the car truly safer than most? But I felt good about it at the time.

You are correct. I keep dropping the 4 into a A.

Sure would like to drive one someday and see what the fuss was all about. AWD G's I've driven, and... eh.

I had a G37x loaner this week, and it was noticeably less worthy.

Learn up on the car you're searching for, and you'll be an expert quick enough. Too many people buy a car and *then* start asking questions about what they have. So you're on the right track.
X is less worthy? noticeably? AWD is actually a must for any sporty cars above 300 hp that are worth my attention, with all the advantages that have already been discussed many times in numerous threads. Especially the kind of AWD system Nissan/Infiniti is employing, not to climbing the dirt hill, but performance minded. Every tried open throttling on wet curvy roads? You will be surprised the difference ATTESA-ETS make.

Try driving an X on a track...I got to drove mine on a track weekend before last. Great traction, especially in turns...now I just need to upgrade the suspension and some new wheels/tires. Too bad Infiniti lacks in the suspension and tires area with the X.

It also did quite well in the mountains on a snowboarding trip last winter...I'll take it again this year.

Yes, very much so. Besides, you're taking that out of context. "Less worthy" because it doesn't have the upgraded OEM suspension, steering and brakes that it could and should have. That's all. And not for nothing, your 300 hp magic number was pulled out of thin air... but whatever. It's all OT to the thread at hand. I should have realized what would happen once people's justification for a common AWD sedan were threatened. My bad entirely.

Carry on. Sorry for the nonsense, OP.

I hear ya. To each of their own... might be more true when people's justification for legacy RWD setup is threatened. Even the mighty M cars do not have the huge fixed calipers, just like someone said the red S badge alone would make the car faster.

Because of gearing, when test driving the 2011, found the 7AT has more off the line than the 6MT

The second car is a red auto that I love how it looks but it has 71k and they are asking 2100 more for the red one. I guess the responsible side says lower mileage and cheaper while the other side says red looks better and I like the black interior.

Ps. Both have navigation and Bose system

With today's automatic transmissions, that's likely. However, no farfegnugen, no care.

Today's auto shifts faster than a human can do with a manual, and Infiniti's 7AT was apparently geared for performance. The shifts are short and quick when drive hard, but it spins at 2000 rpm in top gear@60 mph vs ~1800 from others, too high for fuel econ. I wish there's one more gear to shift into at highway speed, an 8AT might be just perfect.

Actually I wished they kept the 5AT from my 07 G35 and just added a big overdrive 6th speed for hwy miles, that would've been sublime IMO
