Exhaust help plz

I know there are threads on the exaust but most seem to have coupe exhaust. My shop is recommending the invidia q300 with highflow cats i can't find much on them and am leaning towards the FI's with hfc or rtp. Anyone have any thoughts?? Ordering mon so ur response is appreciated.

I had Invidia Q300 with HFC on a coupe. It had quite a bit of rasp and hiss. Decent gains. Very quiet. Hope that helps.

Thanks blk Betty that is what I'm lookin for. And thanks for the sound clips. As helpful as the clips are I think people's opinion of the sound matter alot since the clips depend a lot on speakers and the camera used to record. Anyone else have any opinion on how their exhaust sounds in person. The overwheelming opinion seems to be that the invidia is very quite is this pretty on point?

I have the Tanabe Axle back. It is pricry for just the mufflers/axle back.But it is quiet if you drive normally.When you open the taps,it has a very very nice low rumble to it. I am leaning towards getting a megan Y pipe to go with it.

Hi,

I have just installed the Q300 for my sedan and had a chance to weigh both the Q300 and stock

Weight might be one more factor you might want to consider:
* stock (58.9 lbs)
Muffler 25.8 + Midpipe 19.6 + Ypipe 13.4 = 58.8 lbs

* Q300 (74.0 lbs)
Muffler (incl tips) 36.6 + Midpipe (incl Xpipe) 19.8 + "Ypipe" 17.6 = 74 lbs

Depending on your priorities, the sound, performance increase might *ahem* outweigh the additional 15.2 lbs. I thought to put this info out so you could make an informed decision.

Good info. I normally dont see an aftermarket exhaust that weighs more than the stock one wow. Good job on weighing that thing. I guess Q300 wont ever be on my list.

^^Not a fair assessment. First, the stock is not a true dual exhaust. It's 2 Y pipes that branch into 1, then back into 2. Also, consider the material of the stock exhaust. Aftermarket exhausts are typically stainless steel (of varying grades), Usually 2 1/4 or 2 1/2" in inner diameter. Stock was puny, maybe 1.5" or 1 3/4". 15 pounds is nothing. That's like 3 gallons of fuel.

Good stuff does anyone happen to know the weight of the fast intentions exhaust? I would think Fast intentions prob could answer since they have to ship them. Will call mon.

Thats very true also but any weight savings is good if you can do it since my fat *** probably slows the car down a bit (225) lol. Are all the different exhausts going to add a little weight since its not a true dual? I swapped out exhaust on my Boss Mustang and saved 40lbs and that wasnt a full exhaust. Thats also cuz I eliminated the mufflers with resonated straight pipes.

Heyya Jsolo,

Good points. I agree with you that the stock layout is less than optimal; which is the main reason I chose to go aftermarket (with the Invidia Q300).

you are also correct that weight will not be the primary consideration. Plenty of mods (FI, wide body kits, chassis braces etc) add weight but have their selling points.

So let me requalify my earlier statement to the OP: In the context of choosing which exhaust system to buy, weight will come into play only after considering the other merits of the exhaust (sound, performance, looks).

Maybe all stainless steel exhausts are 10-20 lbs heavier than stock? I think we'd be interested to know. I know the Invidia was no Amuse or Meisterschaft but still... I have always thought that aftermarket catbacks would be lighter than stock. Up to the very moment when I weighed mine .
