Crash Safety Report from IIHS

"The IIHS released its findings Tuesday and said that only three of 11 midsize luxury and near-luxury cars earned good or acceptable ratings in the new overlap frontal crash test."

"Only three of the 11 midsize luxury cars put through the new test passed with good or acceptable ratings. The Acura TL and Volvo S60 earn good ratings, while the Infiniti G earns acceptable ratings. The Acura TSX, BMW 3 series, Lincoln MKZ and Volkswagen CC earn marginal ratings. The Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Lexus IS 250/350, Audi A4 and Lexus ES 350 earn poor. All of these cars are 2012 models."

So much for Lexus and the German cars. Those owners watch their insurance premiums..........

What do you expect when everyone is rushing to make cars for fuel econ and quickest 0-60 with the tiniest engine they can stuff in the nose? The result is tin can sheet metal no tougher than soda bottles. Before my thick-skinned a decade old body-on-frame SUV heading toward junkyard, you are dead dare to have any physical contacts with mine.

My coupe is safe. My family car is a 2012 335i sedan, so it is slightly less safe.

any car given the right circumstances will be a death box. nice to know the 6+ year old design of the V36 is holding up to crash test standards enacted this year and last year.

Moral of the story..... Hit the object head on, not slightly to the left or right of the center of the car.
