Look through youtube for how-to videos for clay bar. It's very easy and very effective.
As frustrating as you probably feel, this will turn out to be a blessing in disguise because you're going to learn to how properly clay your car. A similar think happened to me some years ago with my previous car, when I accidentally got paint on it misting from a spay can I was using in the garage (because idiot).

Tarminator. Cheap and very effective. You can find at local auto parts stores.
Tarminator quickly and easily removes tar, sap, bugs, grease and asphalt from auto exteriors.

I say YES to isopropyl alcohol. Your not gonna soak your whole car in it. You can even just apply with a q-tip if you prefer. Just apply to the sap and you will hardly touch the paint. Ive done this many times with no ill effects. It's not something you want to do a lot, but occasionally it's fine.
Sometimes it's better to use a harsher cleaner that does the work for you rather than rubbing excessively at the same spot. I've never seen any blemish after using alcohol, but I've seen many by people using too much elbow greese in one spot.
Clay bar is preferred, but unless you're going to clay bar the whole car it is a waste of money IMO. If you were/are a hard core detailer than I would say go clay bar, but I'm guessing from his orginal post that he's not (automated car wash). Im just trying to suggest something that works well and most people already have it in their house.

I remember reading on DI that people use iso after polishing the car to get rid of the residue. It seemed okay to me when I used it.
