G25 discontinued already
Infiniti is discontinuing the G25. Boy that was fast. Not surprised with a new model coming in the near future and the lack of any real mpg benefit. Weird that they would not keep it around until the new model though.

According to the article :
In other news, Infiniti has announced that it will no longer offer the entry-level G25 sedan – powered by a 2.5-liter V6 and able to achieve up to 29 miles per gallon on the highway – leaving only the G37 and IPL G to fill out the range. The short-lived G25 will still remain on sale through December of this year.

good!! what a terrible idea!
i have seen the same articles but I have not seen anything "official". I have also read, "At which point a gap in production will begin when Infiniti begins building the new G with a Mercedes 4-cylinder turbo which will replace the VQ25. This will be introduced as a new generation car next year, along with a more powerful motor."

It'll live on in other markets. They sell G25 and M25 in Taiwan, where plate tax is based on the value of the vehicle and the size of the engine. Anything above 2.5L gets a big penalty, even Mazda's 1.3L rotary is taxed as a 2.6L due to being thirsty. Majority of the cars are under 2.0L.
For some reason they don't have EX25 over there, but it's available in China.

Its being discontinued for an ever better option, a boosted 4 banger from our friends at Diamler that makes the same hp and higher tq figures
Very smart move if you ask me

I agree with the IDEA of having a more fuel efficient option than a pretty powerful 3.7L V6, but what was the G25 gaining mpg-wise, 2 or 3 highway?
It should have been a 4 banger option from the start. I had always assumed it was a 4 cylinder until I read the window sticker on one at the dealership.
You werent saving much price-wise when buying it, the option packages were limited AND it didnt really gain much fuel economy? Color me unsurprised it failed.

Remember guys, all the car makers have to meet MPG requirements over the Entire Fleet....That's why we have 7ATs and G25s. All done to squeak out some more MPGs.
