Navigation Package

What exactly am I giving up by not getting the Navigation package on a 2011-2012 G37? Obviously I know I give up the Navigation stuff - directions, traffic, weather, restaraunt guide etc. I have an iPhone so I am not too worried about those items.

I guess without the following I cant play a movie ??
"Multimedia playback of DVD or digital file from a USB flash drive on 7-inch WVGA color display"

The following gives me hands free use of my phone?? as well as other navigation and vehicle information
"Infiniti Voice Recognition for audio, navigation, and vehicle information systems"

Do I loose the ability to wirelessly stream music from my iPhone?

What other features or conveniences do you use that you would not be able to if you did not have the Navigation Package?

I think I am about to buy a new 2012 and just want to make sure the Nav package is worth $1800. I spent several weeks looking for used and I have been suprised at the number of G37's that are just base models, without any additional packages.

Thanks

With the nav you can get the better BOSE system. The handsfree is available without the nav, but you can't stream through bluetooth unless you get the nav. You also get the upgraded harddrive to rip commercial cds onto the harddrive.

I don't know if the non-nav can play mp3 dvds or cds.

Besides the many integrated features like fuel economy data, maintenance alerts, etc., you gain the convenience of not having to take portable devices with you every time you park in public lest they be stolen with possible damage to your car. You also get a bit more for the car when you eventually sell it.

Bose is part of premium package, not the Nav package.

You cannot play video without Nav.

Hands free phone does not require Nav.

I do not have Nav and have the integrated features like fuel economy data, maintenance alerts, etc.

For me the Nav was not worth the price. I have an iPhone, so I just plug it in to USB every time I get in my car to access all of my music and control via the car. I also downloaded a $40 Garmin app which is the exact same thing as a standalone GPS unit, and b/c it is on my phone I take it with me when I get out and don't have to worry about leaving a $250 GPS unit in my car.

You cannot wirelessly stream music from iPhone without Nav.

So much fail and misinformation in this thread.

The only real thing you lose without nav is nav itself. And I guess the ability to play the dvd videos, but really who the **** does that anyway (it can only be done with the car sitting still, i guess there's a hack tho).

And I believe the non-nav screen is slightly lower resolution than the nav one. However, you can still stream bluetooth, still get the multi-info display etc.

It's not really worth it..I only have it because to get the G37x with Sport it always come with premium & nav. But I never use it (it sucks) and prefer Google Nav on my android smartphone.

My last G had every option but the Nav. I got the Nav this time.

Having experience with both... I'd recommend getting the Nav.

More often than not, I have no need for the nav. If I am ever really lost, or need help, iPhone is my best friend. I decided not to get the nav pack on this car, so I don't know if you are able to really manipulate it while you are driving, but in my father's Lexus, the system basically locks up if you are moving, and you cannot change the destination. Being able to use it while you are driving, is the best features of the google maps app.

The premium package is the more important package to spring for, not having it will kill your resale if it ever comes to that.

If I were to plug in my phone or gps every time I get into my car, here is my estimate:

It takes about 5 seconds to plug in and remove.

On average, I get in and out of my car about 5 times a day.

So, 5 x 5 = 25 seconds every day = 9,125 seconds a year = 152 minutes a year = 2.535 hours a year = 25.35 hours in 10 years.

Average life of a car is about 10 years, I assume that is reasonable assumption.

My hourly rate is over $75 per hour. 25.35 hours x $75 per hours = $1901.25.

I came to my conclusion that it was worth for me to get the Navigation package. The math worked out and I do enjoy the convenience of bluetooth streaming and directions without having to pull out my phone.

I do have an Android phone with free Google real time traffic and turn by turn navigation, but it is I rarely use it. I don't like pulling out my phone in the car. That way I also get added benefit of not texting while driving.

No offence but you just added to the misinformation portion.
You can not stream music via BT without the Nav Pkg.
The multi-info display has a completely different UI and obviously many more options due to Nav and BT additions.

The OP was a pretty simple question.
We don't have to justify not getting Nav Pkg any more than we need to justify getting it.
To each his own, whatever floats your boat, etc.

Forget the math. (And to each their own). I've never had nav before, what a nice set of features to be able to stream without wires.

I use VZNAV, imo, the best nav software out there (especially at the discount of $4.99 for month, with the added benefit google isn't tracking me). But the vehicle nav integrates well and it shows interesting information easy for the driver to read. And, I don't have to deal with the phone.

It’s been shown quite a few times on this site that in the long run there are two kinds of G owners; those who have factory nav and those who eventually wish they had it too.

I guess the debate will become mute in a few years when all new cars come with nav as standard equipment like radio and heaters are today.
