New Exhaust Tips for the G37 Sedan
The OEM exhaust on the G37 has 2.25" exhaust tips that are wrapped in a clamp & weld, oval tip which is 4.5" wide by 3.0" high. The crimps are plainly visible, as is the folded edge at the bottom. They're only 4" long, so you can readily see them as an add-on. They angle downward at a 5-10* pitch, and on my car, were hardly centered to the bumper.
Anyway, I'm none too fond of them, and for a while now have been trying to figure out a simple solution that would make me happier with the tips, without breaking the bank on a whole new exhaust...
...which I do want! But eventually, just not right now. So here's my answer:

...which I do want! But eventually, just not right now. So here's my answer:
- A pair of Magnaflow Stainless Steel, 3.5", single-wall tips with a 45* slash-cut. ($52 shipped, from MagnaflowDepot.com)
- A couple hours at a trusted and skilled mechanic, $100 + tax (because he likes me. Go figure.)

The new tips are welded directly to the face of the OEM mufflers, with a slash cut there and some grinding in order to make a relatively flush fit. The welding is all the way around, and solid as a rock. They're perfectly parallel to the ground, centered in the cut-outs, and with just enough room to still get my fingers in there and clean them.
The only compromise here is that at a straight-on perspective, the tips are almost invisible, because of the single-wall design. However, as soon as you move one way or the other, that goes away. And personally, I think the profile is beautiful. Particularly with the 45 degree cut, which I think really accents the bumper well.

I'll be honest here about where I stand on this very tiny aesthetic mod... it's just an attempt to get happier with the tips as compared to the OEM ovals. Specific to that objective, I'm good with what's been done.
However, I was hoping the single-wall edge would be more noticeable than it is from the dead straight-on perspective. As it is, the tips all but disappear from that very narrow angle. Move a few degrees right or left, and they look great. And at a profile... beautiful, IMO.
Someday I'll get a decent catback, and I'm really happy to discover the G community has a wealth of options there. Until then, this is better than OEM, and a good enough mod for a small cost.
