Hitch Install For My Bike Rack

I will be picking up my Curt Hitch for my 2011 G37S Sedan today.
I will either install it today or tomorrow morning. I will post pictures of the install once it is completed. I am doing this to carry my Road Bike around and to events. I did not want to take the chance of screwing up my finish with a trunk mount or roof mount.

I backed out of the hitch plan.

Now i am looking for a good trunk bike rack...

Any suggestions? Thule or Saris?

It works well. The install is a lot of work, but straight forward. You'll have to cut into the bumper. Also, you'll need to choose your rack carefully so it won't hit the trunk when you open it. My Yakima 4 bike rack interferes with the trunk, so that wasn't a planned thing!

I've had my hitch since I got the G back in 2010 - it has made the car 200% more useful, if not more. Best of all you can't really see the hitch with the curt plug in it. Do it!

Could you take a picture of it? I want to know if it will interfere with my autokits diffuser in back. Otherwise, I would love to be able to carry my bike. I don't see not opening the trunk as a big deal.

Hitch Install

I installed the hitch you are considering on my sedan. Pretty straight forward install. Check out his link for info: https://www.myg37.com/forums/body-in...options-5.html

Here is a pic. This is another forum members install but I have the exact same set-up.

My trunk still opens just fine. And by the way, I have gone through several bike racks and by far the best one is made by raxter.

Their website is www.raxterracks.com

I liked their product so much that I became a dealer here in norcal. If you go to yelp.com and search for A & B Trailer Hitch in Redwood City, CA you will see photos of my hitch install on my g37 sedan but they were taken before I had installed the rubber plug.

Here's a photo I just took of my (dirty) G37 with curt plug in hitch:

Amazon sells these plugs pretty cheap, I think like $2.50 with free shipping? Just search for 1.25" curt hitch plug.

Which of their racks did you get....they list 3 with the 1.25" size.

Bike rack weight

A question for you. Does the weight of the bike rack affect how the car rides? I'm considering putting a hitch for my 1UP rack (50lbs) and my 2 29" mtb's (64lbs), but I'm a bit worried that the total weight might cause the car's rear end to ride too low. Thanks!
