Wrapped it in 5% tint and smoked two BMWs (Pics)
What a good week.
G37S, 6MT, Stock - BMW Z4 3.0, 6MT, Tunned, Dinan Exhaust - BMW 335i, DCT, Stock.
Out at Raceway Park in NJ on a perfect 60 degree day (my G37, my bro in his Z4, and a friend in his 335i). Off the line, I took the 335i by a car length. The 335i had a DCT (dual clutch trans, $4,500 option) with launch control. Despite this - he spun them a bit off the line. I have a decent launch, but also get a bit of spin and some slight bog on hook. Z4 has solid launch and comes out inches in front of me, with the 335i about a car length behind us both. Through second, 335i pulls ahead of the Z4. I am steadily pulling away from both BMWs, except the 335i gets a creep during my shift to third. G37 continues pulling ahead in third gear. Race over.
1st - G37S
2nd - 335i
3rd - Z4
I rode around in the 335i a bit and it is an impressive car, obviously fast. It was especially fun to drag race. The 335i and I also did a rolling start (wish I had video) with same result. My G37 pulled on the BMW 335i except a creep while I shifted. That DCT on the 335i shifts insane fast. But once in gear, the G37 steadily pulled away, eventually a car lenght by the time we let off.
Please let me know what you think of the 5% -
And the fresh detail (just before tint):

Tints look nice. I got sick of rolling down my windows at night when I lived in Thailand, so I stick to legal limits these days.
Did you try swapping cars? I wouldn't be surprised if the 335 would then win.

Kind of surprise that he lost with a DCT. It should be 0.1-0.2 second faster than a manual car to 60. He probably played in manual mode and shifted at red line where the 335 sucks. The best shift point is around 6k.

While the two cars are quite close on paper, the 335i has a couple tenths edge (depending on the review). In other words, you had the better driver mod. Particularly when you consider his dual-clutch setup, even though I'd much rather row my own gears regardless of the gains in a DC.
I certainly envy you and your friends that day of fun. Sounds like a great afternoon.

I find 335s funny though...simple chip/exhaust makes it faster than an m3.
Aka, beats all.
Good driving btw! 6MT FTW!
Question: With 5% all around... WHY U NO TINT FRONT?!

Nice. Congrats on beating the bimmers. You should have let me know you were there, I would have walked over.
You're gonna get pulled over with those tints.

Was the 335 TT or TST? Did the 335 driver operate in auto mode?

You have to remember that when magazine racing, things often can end up differently in the real world. I think people expect the few tenths of a second differences in magazine times equates to blowing the doors off things in real life..not really what happens.

Yup, that's what I was saying. The 335 guy might have had a chance if he let the DST did the work, and hoped the G37 guy missed a shift.

Roger-that, I had enough bad memories inside the Phoenix city limits back in the mid eighties. This was just one of those rare occasions where the stars were aligned just right (and my wife wasn't objecting) so I rolled the dice, I don't see that happening again. But it was indeed a run to remember
