Poor G :(

All those who have either driven *any* BMW or owned *any* BMW can stay.

Yes, the Prius is probably better in heavy stop and go driving and can probably smoke a G also. But once the thing hits 80 there ain't nowhere to go but down.

Yup, that's why a reviewer's 528i with the same powertrain was smoked by a Prius, which gave me a pretty good laugh. BMW has obviously focused on fuel econ other than driving experience with this iteration, which get them one step closer to be a Camry.
"In “Eco Pro” mode, the throttle feel approaches that of a Prius, and I found it oddly soothing to ooze slowly away from stops much as I would in a Prius. (So much so that, when I drove a 528i with the same powertrain, a Prius first tailgated then passed me. Payback’s a…well, you know.)"

However, I'm sure BMW, due to the "badge", will sell a ton of them to potential Camry buyers.

- I've driven a 2006 z4 3.0i
- I spent a good hour driving a 2012 328i last Saturday, hard, with all nannies off

I can assure you that most G37 owners have test driven at least one BMW 3 before buying the G.

What he's thinking is:
If you don't own an ultimate driving machine, you don't know how to drive at all.

I never assume anything, because when you assume....

It wouldn't be so funny, if the F30 wasn't such a potent car for a four banger. Remember the 525? Camrys could mop the floor with it on 0 to 60. But that's about where it ended. BMW produces cars that in general have the best road feel in this segment. I wish my G37 had the road feel of any BMW, while at the same time more low end torque.
Infiniti has to step up the game...

Well, since I'd like to qualify for participation here, I just searched for a 2012 manual transmission BMW 3-series to test drive, and no one has them in my area - only automatics.

Where did you get the information that the 328i has more low-end torque? Seems roughly similar. Also, the weight difference is less than 170 lbs for the automatic sedan.
Infiniti does have a redesigned model coming next year.

What exactly is better about the road feel of the BMW?

I can't vouch directly for the F30, but every other BMW I've driven drove as smooth as butter. The G37 to me is not as smooth as butter in comparison. That is not to say I don't like it, but in comparison one can tell a difference. Whether you like it or not is another story. I happen to like it.

There was a set of graphs over at g35driver.com that had this information. In the last few pages a poster had a link to it.

I'm never said the new 328i is a bad car. It's a fun car to drive, but just because it's made by BMW doesn't make it the best car ever.
Perhaps NA I6 is smooth, but definitely not the turbocharged one. Look at how choppy the line is for 335i.

you spend about .25 second between 1000 - 2000 rpm, so that is pretty irrelevant IMO. if you look at the torque at 2000 rpm, there is a huge difference between ~275 lb.ft. and ~180 lb.ft. In city driving and traffic, what matters is between 2000-3000rpm (low end), and that's where the greatest difference is between the G and the BMW. The only time the G surpasses the BMW in the above graph is at over 6000rpm. How much time do you really spend in that range? really.

Plus, turbo lag is always there.
