Also, not all customers negotiate all the way down to the minimum, so there's more profit in some cases. Even if a customer negotiates all the way down to the minimum, it's still worth it for the dealer to get rid of the inventory sitting on the lot - it's not like these cars are a rare commodity which is worth keeping around for a higher-paying customer. There's plenty for everyone who wants them...

This thread just won't die. For the longest time, I wrongly assumed by the title that someone got into a accident, and after a few hundred posts there was little point in joining what had probably turned into a private chat room of familiar members. But today I opened it up realized how banal it actually is.
Then I saw the the word "Irregardless" (sigh) in the first post, and skipped to the end and see it's mostly another BMW vs. Infiniti romp.
Just saying... in case you guys lost sight of how pointless this thread seems.

Rochester - you're welcome to start a thread that has an important point to make unlike this thread... Note that finding something really important to talk about in regards to cars can be challenging! Anyway, what's the point in posting a pointless post on what you consider to be a pointless thread?
G vs BMW 3 discussions do hold some interest because this is a dilemma faced by many buyers of these cars.

328i vs G37
why are we comparing 2011 328i prices vs the 2012 G37 price?
ridiculous... we are talking about BMW F30 vs Infiniti G37.
buying a stripped out barebone 328i is corny.
dollar for dollar you'd get more for the G37.
It's always a good dream until you actually trade in your G37 for an 328i F30.
And when you do drive that 328i everyday, you may think why did you trade in your nicely equipped G37 for a stripped out 328i....

Well, lots of things we do in our life are utterly pointless. But for the fun I got from them I don't mind that I just wasted a few minutes of my life doing pointless things.

Lord knows, when you buy a Porsche you can add 75% of the price of the car in options. Can you imagine anyone not fully loading up a Porsche and driving a stripper model?

Some people just care how it drives and don't care other amenities as much as other people.
navigation - optional
upgrade sound - optional
heated seat - optional
back up camera - optional
A stripped 328i sport line with premium package, enough luxury and sporty with price under control.

The thing is that the cars on the lots at dealerships aren't equipped like that. They are fully loaded or close to that. You would need to special order a stripped car, particularly if you want manual transmission. At that point, you have little leverage to negotiate a price much lower than MSRP, so the extra cost of the BMW beyond the street price of a G37 is still very substantial.

True you get more out of the G for the same money.

Myself can live without Navi as there are so many great portables available, but not without a good sound system, the base stereo was awful in the E90.
PS: Wait... is it saying you need a "Anti-theft alarm system" option to have remote control? That's nut! Another $400.

Yes - the options is how BMW gets you... The stripper price is just a teaser. Even in the unlikely case that you're satisfied with a stripper (and it truly is pretty bare-bones), you'll get nailed on the higher street price of a special order.

It used to be I would agree with you guys on the stripped model..but after having them there's a few features I expect to have on a car now.
The heated seats are crucial in the winter..makes the morning commute go by much easier. I really love the back up cam, helps with parallel parking in the city a lot. And keyless entry / alarm should be standard, as well as xenons. I also really like the autodim mirror, comes in handy when you got the redneck brodozer tailgating you. Nav i could actually take or leave, didn't have a choice with Sport on the G, but I always end up using my android google nav which is far superior to any OEM nav unit.
I got a great deal ($37k) on a leftover '11, they were really pushing them around thanksgiving. Invoice price means nothing - the manufacturer provides "holdback" when a car is sold, usually 2% of the MSRP. They probably didn't make much, but they still made at least $500 off me I'm sure of. Also, Infiniti is throwing in an extra $1k to dealers right now for the loyalty program, so that is why you can get a car 1-2k under invoice.

I don't know why people think a special order car is sold at a premium. You can negotiate on a special order car just like any dealer stock. I special ordered my previous A3 and got he same $500 above invoice as any dealer stock on the lot. If they don't sell it to you, they will sell it to someone else.
