I would look into it after they establish some track record of reliability... Maybe the new 3-series will do exactly that, but who knows. Also, the price is a little hard to swallow for what you get compared to the competition in my opinion. Again, neither one of these issues was addressed in the article.

And don't forget the easy cheating BMW can do with their turbos. Last time their 335i got turbo overheating during tests, the production cars produced after had no where close to the power of the test car. And last I checked MT did not get their test cars from the market.
Infiniti has to keep up, the 3.6L engine is a dinosaur at this point in time.

I want to know how I can expect these cars to perform on the street, without engine or tranny parts being strewn all over the place from a torque launch.

They are the marketing arm of makers whoever paid them the most. So it's not likely they are going out of business anytime soon.

Well, Infiniti must not have been paying them enough in recent times...

Car magazines are just like other magazines about expensive products (audiophile equipment, watches, etc.) - hint: the reader isn't the one paying the bills.

Even still, limp mode is still around the corner. My statement still stands, these cars are not made to be flogged at the track.

Comparing cars which are at significantly different price levels is somewhat strange - especially since Infiniti has the better G37 which is closer (than the G25) to the price of the 328i, although still quite a bit less expensive.

True, but the 335 starts at about, ~~$6.5K, more then the G37. Only you can decide if that money is worth it to you. Just like I didn't get a fully loaded, G37, I wouldn't get a fully loaded 335. Although no doubt the packaging of options/accessories on German cars is way different than Japanese cars.
