2009 vs 2012 G37s backup camera?
Hi guys,
I have a question regarding 2009 vs 2012 G37s backup camera video.
Backup camera on the 2009 was sharper and sensor brightened images in shade or at night. But on the 2012 camera video seems washed out and really dark at night.
Is this normal?

I think the stock screen is O.K. - not great but does its job fine. My only gripe (besides the horrible iPod interface that backs up to the main menu each time) is the colors of the maps. The yellow roads are so ugly, I almost never use the maps display zoomed in.

The 2009 navi screen has a much lower resolution. I believe its around 480x234. The camera had a higher resolution than the screen, thus making it appear sharper. The 2009 also had a separate camera control unit, which might've been better at adjusting contract and color for the backup camera.
The 2010+ navi screen was upgraded to 800x480. The maps and video display is much sharper and clearer. However, now the camera has a lower resolution than the screen. There is probably some upscaling too. The camera control unit was eliminated and the camera signal is fed directly to the screen.
In the 2009 screen, map resolution = camera resolution. In 2010+, map resolution > camera resolution. Because you got used to seeing the higher resolution maps and video on the new screen, when you switch to camera mode, things appear less sharp and clear than you remember. When you had the 2009 screen, the maps was less sharp and refined and made the camera resolution seem clearer.
The elimination of the camera control unit might've also contributed to the washed out image of the 2010 camera.

I get it now. Thanks for the info!

Like op said. Its washed out and almost blurry. Played with all the settings to no avail. with the cp I was able to tell when my tail cleared the red Curbside... I was able to see clearly when the red started and park just inside the red day or night. Not with my new 13' sdn. It has no definition and the colors just suck... the curb red or not it almost looks the same. I have to get off and make sure im inside the red limit.
