keyless entry FOB program

we had misplaced one our keyless entry fobs and finally after 5 months of it not turning up i decided to follow through with getting another one. thanks to the help on this forum i learned that instead of paying 300-350 for a new one, i could purchase a blank on ebay for 50 then have the dealer program it for 100. i called the dealer today and asked if they would program a blank for me. they stated it was a 50-50 chance that it would work or they could gaurentee it would work if i bought it from them for 300. what are your thoughts on the dealer statement and anybody else with similar experiences? that statement sounds kind of sketchy to me. really!? a 50-50 chance it will work?? cmon!!

how about 1 hr after i placed this call i get back into our other car and after opening the passenger side door to place something in the seat i happen to look down to notice a black object underneath the seat. to my surprise its the missing fob! my wife and i searched that car top to bottom multiple times over the past 5 months and there it is staring at me in the face.

I'm surprised the car allowed you to lock the doors with the fob inside.

I thought it prevented that, no?

It's supposed to. I can't lock mine with the keys in the car.

he said it was in the other car, so it wouldn't have prevented locking. Seems funny though unless the battery died in the remote if you parked close to each other in the garage you'd be able to open the G without having a key in your pocket.

Glad you found it though. Sounds like standard stealership talk though, Mine tells me mods are fine and won't hurt the warranty as long as a certified Infiniti tech installs them. Just a way for them to make sure they get money to pay the bills.

thx! yes the key was in my other car and that car is always parked right next to the G in the garage alternate sides once in awhile and the lost fob works completely fine too. over the past couple months i have tried almost everythign. I was taking bags and jackets from the house and walking up to the g to try and lock it with the external entry button without success. i did park the G super close to my other car within inches and nothing. i was parking the g within inches of my work bench and the shelves in the garage also with this method but nothing. i need to throw a party now that i found this thing haha.

Lost FOB

I lost mine too. But it has not turned up after 6 months so I bought one on Ebay for $38. Got two prices $110 and $138 for programming. No BS about it not working from either dealer. The price is BS though, took them 15 minutes to finish it. Just be sure to match up the FCC numbers on any FOB you buy with the one you have.

FCC number

I should have mentioned that the FCC number can be found inside the FOB once you remove the blade key and the programming charge included cutting the blade key (the one I bought on Ebay had not been cut)
