Advice Please! G35 or G37?
After doing exhausting research on BMW, Lexus, Acura, and of course Infiniti I'm starting to feel pretty confident in getting a CPO Infiniti.
My issue with the G37 is the same as everyone else's, the terrible tranny. My price range was right around what a 2009 G37 is going for and now I'm wondering if it would be a better choice to save a couple ground and go down to the 2008 G35.
For people that have had both, could you please briefly describe your experience with each and offer your advice? What does the G37 have to offer that the 08 G35 doesn't other than a slight increase in MPG? I need to do more reading on g35driver.com I guess but any insight would really help me a lot in my buying decision. Thanks in advance!

an 08 is very similar to the 09, except for the new engine of course. some other mild upgrades i believe. if i was you i'd go with the g37 because it is a later model and will resale better. the power bump is not all that noticeable in the g37 (at least from my '04 G35) but NVH was somewhat improved.
since this site is called myg37.com my guess is most folks will tell you to go for the 37.
and both of my G's have been 6MT, of course.

I've had both (see my sig below) and if you can find an 08 w/ decent miles and some warranty left I'd probably go that route. The 5AT is a great match for the car and is a very decisive transmission that's usually in just the right point in the torque curve when it shifts. You will get a couple mpg less w/ the 5AT and you'll be reving about 500 rpm higher on the highway but it's a better drive (especially around town)than the quirky 7AT. If you can find a 08 G35"S" that would ideal IMO (assuming a clean interior/exterior, lower miles and warranty remaining).
Or like the previous post, go w/ a 6MT and get the newest you can afford

My advice is to drive them both back to back for a good amount of time in varied conditions and make your decision based on that. I also feel based on this forum that some cars trannys are just less quirky than others.
Personally, I just bought my 09 last November after driving an 08 and despite some tranny quirks (most cars have them) I felt the 09 simply felt far more spirited and sporty and I truly believe the 09's added HP and more gears not only yields better mpg but i am absolutely certain it's a little quicker than the 08.

G37 also got significant interior material improvement over 08' G35, when I test drove one I decided not to buy, the dull wood trim looked fake, and the plastics looked like those in a Camry. Frankly, the 2012 G37 with maple wood trims felt more upscale than a fully loaded 335i, not so sure about 09' though.

The wood trim that you mentioned was an option and I totally agree that it looked really cheap but the washi aluminum standard trim looks good, the plastics are a decent grade (better than a Camry IMO). The interiors of the 2012s are indeed moving more upscale, and the current wood trim looks 10x better now.
