If you ever have a reason to crack them open again the lens swap is simple, and those awesome housings deserve them.

I agree 100%. Really liking how your headlights turned out, Gregor! Great job!

So... why did you paint over the ridges under the projector?

It dosen't matter. The chrome will still bubble anyways. Seeblackrain's and I's headlights have small bubbling already appear , and we didn't paint the ridges. I'm convinced it's the black paint + sti-r lens. The bubbling is hardly noticeable, you have to go up close to look.

And, high-heat paint was used for both cars.

Oh, wow. That's a little disappointing.

Do you think if 180Customs does the paint+lens (while leaving the chrome ridges unpainted) that it would hold up better? Because that's the route I want to go, and it could very well be this summer when I do it.

I think bubbling occurs from being outside and the sun's reflection/magnification through the projector lens and not necessarily related to the changing of a lens.

Just pure speculation here man, I'm thinking the sti-r lens is more translucent and magnifies the heat. I know of a friend in Houston, black bezels on a 2010+ headlights with stock lenses. No bubbling.

That's the exact configuration I have. Paint + lens but left the ridges unpainted. I live in TX which is a little hotter than NY so that may play a role too. And, to my knowledge, 180 just uses regular automotive paint. Not the high-heat stuff that I used.

Speaking of headlights... Was walking through a parking lot when I noticed this Lancer with some sick headlights.

The proper way to customize your lights is to make sure you have a dead frog in there.

Looks like a tree frog. Either those headlight housings aren't sealed....or...they're really well sealed. EEEWWW (daughter noise, LOL. My son thinks it's cool and would leave it).

Crazy!

If the housing is properly sealed, then I say he should pull a vacuum on it to get all the air out, reseal it, and then he will have a well preserved frog carcass for years to come!
