Figured its my turn for one of these posts...had an unfortunate encounter with a nice, historic brick wall in alexandria the other day. Still can't believe it, I've never done something like this before, just careless I suppose

Anyways, need rear door repainted, rear fender repaired, and side section of rear bumper repainted.

A local shop (new in town so don't have previous experience, though yelp reviews are good) quoted $1000 cash to cut fender, replace/reshape new sheet metal, repaint rear quarter up to windows, repaint door, and repaint and blend side part of rear bumper. The owner particularly explained no filler/bondo would be used. Other quotes were in the 1000-1500 dollar range

Does this amount of work and price seem reasonable?

PS some real nice sedans posted lately, esp the silver one with the sport lip. Was hoping to do some work to mine to warrant some new photos, but this little mishap will likely curb my plans

That sounds almost too good to be true, I would think $1500 minimum. Good luck w/ the repair, been there, done that. Not fun but as long as it's to your satisfaction in the end that's what matters.

I also agree it seems a little low, relative to my expectations and research, do you think it's too low or out of the ballpark to consider it questionable that they could do a proper job? To me it's tough because it doesn't seem outrageously low enough to discredit, but also not well versed on prices and what needs to be done.

Spoke with owner and he explained the repair to me in good detail, made me more confident, but I'd hate to get a shoddy job on an otherwise new car.

Any more advice is much appreciated.

Not sure, I got this little ding in my bumper and for the repair (not even a new bumper) it was almost $800. My T-bone crash was $8k but that was new doors, side pillar, seals, a whole side & hood paint, blend and of course time on the frame machine and several other parts.
Maybe it's not as bad as it appears but from your pic it looks like several areas are affected. It sounds like you're doing your homework and if you have personal references for this place (not just online reviews) that's a good sign. Be sure to let them know they won't receive the large portion of the bill until you sign off on it. Be sure to check the blend from every possible angle under different lighting and if they have a sun gun even better.

Guys just wanted some advice on what to do next. I just put on some Tanabe axle backs. My previous mods are minimal in a GT-R start button and putting on 245/50/17 tires on my factory 17's. I really like these rims but would like to put on some 19 coupe rims (same size all around) and maybe do a small drop. Maybe the Eibach Pro V kit. Here is a photo of what it looks like now. I really am happy. With the wider tires it handles way better than before. I love the Tanabe deeper exhaust note, that livens up when you get on it. So.......19's in the near future? My friend has some nice aftermarket 20's with Toyo Proxies on great shape he keeps trying to sell me for $500. I think 20's would be way too big w/out a drop, and the ride might be too harsh for wife.

Here are the rims my friend has. He had them on a dark grey '06 M35x and they looked nice. No drop either. But the G37 is a different car.

Those wheels are horrendous and would look terrible on an unlowered sedan. On the other hand, your sedan appears to be sitting very tall with those oversized tires...4x4 status. And your G37x emblem appears to have been applied by a first grader haha.

Spoke with a friend in the business, says a true fender replacement is not warranted and it would cost $3K+ for a proper job. Also said overwhelming majority of shops do not treat replacement metal for rust, etc. so best to avoid actually cutting/replacing metal unless absolutely necessary. Said the ideal way to repair this sort if damage is to reshape existing metal then use fiberglass to fill and make lines even again. Will go with shop that said they would use this method, quote was for $1300 (ill try to haggle down) which also included full repaint of rear door and rear bumper. May be worth noting no replacement parts are needed, so cost is primarily labor.

(Sorry for cluttering the thread, felt compelled to share in case this info would be of use to anyone)

The tires are not over size diameter wize. They are 679mm where as the oem diameter is 680mm. So they are actually smaller. They are just wider by 10mm. U may think it sits higher because my driveway has a big slope. Here is another photo. As for the emblem.....you're right on. I'm going to fix that. I am not the original owner and carfax showed 1 accident with rear damage. Morons put the emblem up too high.

The x and xS sit slightly higher than RWD models. I think about 3/4" officially, however my '09 xS was more than an inch higher than my '11 S.
