G37 AWD vs G37 RWD

I plan on getting a RWD G37 so I rented a G37 this past week. When I got to the rental place, they only had the AWD one so I test drove that version.

On dry pavement, does RWD offer better handling and what about the ride quality between AWD and RWD?

Although the regular seats were comfortable, I think I might need the adjustable thigh supported offered in the sports package. Does going with the Sports package make the RWD too harsh for long distance freeway commute. I don't mind a firmer ride but I don't want a jarring one.

I had this debate for a while. the sport suspension is by now way jarring. You can feel the road a bit but by no ways uncomfortable. perception is also from what car you are coming from.

Handling will be subjective. The RWD is lighter and aslo has more sport options to include the brakes, steering ratio, LSD rear end, etc. But the AWD has, well AWD.

The seats are love or hate. the sports are definitly skiny and can be tight in the thigh area depending on your size.

All in all, even though I live in a snowy region i went with the RWD S and use winter tires in winter.

IMO, the sports seats are more comfortable, I like the adjustable bolstered supports and the thigh extension.

as far as the ride is concerned, the sport suspension is a bit stiffer and a bit lower than the AWD suspension, but as said before....its by no means harsh or unbearable

Do you need AWD? If you don't, I'd go with the G37S. You pay a penalty in weight and gas mileage with the AWD.

That said, I went with the G37xS because I will be relocating to the east coast and wanted to be better able to deal with winter conditions. If I were staying in the Bay Area, it would be RWD only: I can drive my Z06 year round here.

AWD is the way to go. It is not just for winter, but also for summer raining day. If you drive aggressively, it is for dry road as well. Front will kick in whenever the rear breaks loose.

Does your dealer not give test drives?

Are they quicker in 0-60? 1/4 mile? Just curious as I really don't know.

As far as a GTR that is a totally different car.

Unless you live in an area which sees quite a bit of snow, you'll be fine with RWD. AWD costs more....initially and in the long run. Apart from 0-60, the RWD will beat the AWD in all comparisons in the dry. You shouldn't be "racing" in the wet on regular streets anyway, so no point discussing that.

Don't think the awd is faster than the rwd in any way.
