Still impressed with the highway mpg of the G

I just got home from a 640 mile round trip in Florida. I drove almost all of it at 85 mph, with a few burst of speed to get around road hogs, except going through the Orlando area, where the speed limit drops way down. I got 27 mpg for this trip. I would think if I set the cruise at 75 it would have got close to 30 mpg, but it's pretty hard to drive that slow in the areas of Florida I drive. I would be impeding the flow of traffic. Even at 85 I still had quite a few cars pass me. When I see a faster car coming up from behind I always try and get over so they can pass. I think it's great to have some one going faster then me, so they can worry about the speed traps. On the drive up a stone hit my windshield, like a rifle shot. I didn't see a chip. When I wash the car later today maybe I'll see the damage. Last year I got a stone chip in the w/s and had it filled in, now it doesn't show at all.

Agreeed about the X. I just did about 100 miles yesterday of mostly interstate (65) and country highway (55) and I got an indicated 24.4 on winter gas and with my X.

The RWD is rated 2mpg better on the highway over the X.

Even packed with 5 passengers, I do get 26 mpg with my x driving 100% highway on long trips. But because I drive in NY most of the time, the life time average of my G is just 15.7 mpg.

I like to see that some people still feel this way. "Drive on the right, pass on the left". Folks just don't do this anymore. In heavy traffic everyone wants to be in the left lane so they don't lose their spot. But when they finally get past everyone, they fall to the right lane and go 70. Ugh. Then there's the guy who drives slow in the left lane, but speeds up when they think you want to pass them to get around.

Great info on the MPG. I did get over 30 on a 180 mile trip from Austin to Dallas once going about 75. I later found out I had a 15 MPH tailwind the whole way, so that surely affected it.

Thanks for the research, kaoticdemize!

80 MPH - new cruising speed! Hopefully the highway patrol will be as enthusiastic.

I consistently get 26 mpg in my X between Austin and Ft Worth. I always got 28-29 in my 350Z (6MT).

Never have gotten over 27, most of the time 25 if we are taking it easy and the wife drives a lot of the trip. When it's just me I can't even get 20mpg on the highway.................

I don't seem to be getting the same MPGs as some of the others with X's on here..so far in my 1000 miles of ownership I'm averaging 22 mpg, but my commute is 90% highway..so thought I would be doing better than that. And that's being babied, since I haven't even been over 5k rpm yet because of the break-in period. Oh well I didn't buy the car expecting Prius mileage though..
