Windshield question/issues

I agree with some here. Stop tailgating on the highway (and if you have multiple stone chips then you are tailgating often) and leave at least 4 car lengths behind a normal sized car and 5 or 6 car lengths between you and a truck if you are forced to drive behind one because of traffic. While getting chips can be bad luck sometimes, most times it's because people are way too much impatient and feel that one car length is sufficient to trail someone and getting to a destination 10 seconds sooner is more important than having multiple stone chips.
Body shops will tell you that cars these days are more susceptible to stone chips blah, blah, blah but thay just want you to keep driving the way you're driving because it's good for business. It's just that we are all more impatient these days and traffic is heavier and more congested so everybody is fed up and tailgate like crazy and then lots of replaced windshields. If you look on the highway any given day at least 75% of drivers follow at less than 2 car lengths behind at 60MPH or more.

I agree most people are terrible, inconsiderate drivers.
I never tailgate, and I have a few rock chips with only 8k miles.
Beyond delicate paint, the main problems are dirty roads (especially near construction areas and in winter after the salt and gravel is down) and driving behind semi trucks. Rocks and debris get thrown 6+ feet up into the air. Even if you're 10 car lengths back, driving behind a semi will pelt you with debris.
My comment about terrible inconsiderate drivers applies equally to truckers. I respect the necessity of the trucking industry. Unfortunately right now, it's full of young, inexperienced drivers with big egos. Combined with increased traffic congestion and very demanding delivery schedules it makes big-rigs much worse than just a minor annoyance on the highway.
