Got hit. Is the car totalled?

Long story short, traffic slowed on the freeway so I stepped on the brakes. I always look at my rearview mirror when I brake on the freeway, so I saw this old Ford Explorer coming right at me, not slowing down. As I suspected, he slammed into me. He actually changed lanes and passed me, so I floored it and followed him. He exited the freeway about a mile down and continued to not pull over. I called 911 as I was following him and gave them the license plate number. Highway patrol advised me to pull over and stop following him. I did and they dispatched an officer. Luckily, I was not hurt. I'm sure I will feel some soreness tomorrow, but I walked away from this unscratched. On to pics. So what do you all think? Totalled? Part of his license plate number is actually imprinted on my bumper.

Oh man, glad you're okay, that's a nasty hit. I honestly think the car will be totalled.

I wouldnt have stopped chasing i think, you never know about fake plates or stolen car.
anyways, that looks really nasty, Trunk, Rear window, bumper, back fenders, it looks like it most likely might be totalled ... depends what the insurance rep says tho.

Assuming no frame damage, then MAYBE they won't total it. But you're looking at pretty much a whole new rear. Looks nasty man. Sorry =\

for someone who just got into an accident, you sure as passive.
with that sort of damage, i honestly can't image it being totaled. but with internal damage (ie alignment + frame), i can image it'd be very, very close. i wouldn't want the car after a hit that extreme...

GLAD you're alive, and still breathing. Get yourself checked out - your NECK!!!

Ouch! That could possibly be a tottal! All depends How bad the rear frame rails are! I wrk at a Body shop, we had 2 G35 Sedans similar hit to yours! And they fixed both! like brand new! So being yours is a 2010 would be a 50/50 shot of saving and fixing! Glad u got out Ok...Sorry to see your G like that!

hope they find this guy, sounds like a possibly drunk driver that didn't want to get caught, I definitely wouldn't have stopped until cops arrived

If you insurance company chooses to repair that damage rather than total the car, you need to switch to another company. Glad you're ok!

Sorry about your ride but your safety is the most important thing. It looks like it's on the verge of being totalled. Unfortunately the insurance company will rip you off a bit as they give you black book value for the car which is always too low unless you got that gap insurance where they give you full value of the car for the 1st year or 2.

These reckless drivers **** me off to no end but none do it more than tailgaters. If I find someone tailgating I will usually wave a dissapproving finger wag so they see it thru the back windshield and that does a good job of telling them that you're annoyed and they usually back off. It helps that I'm not a small guy either so when I give them a staredown when they pass beside me they don't even look in my direction.

It looks like it may get totaled. I was rearended too but not as bad.

Look here, I had slightly more damage than this. My estimate was close to 15K including rental.
got rear ended today - G35Driver

There's definitely frame damage in your case, the unibody frame crumples. So the rear rails would need replacement, trunk floor. Quarter panels probably have buckling, the gap between the frame and your rear doors is probably shrunk.

Get yourself checked out, and go to physio/massage therapy if needed cause back pain doesn't show up right away. And they say if you saw the car coming and hit you it's worse because you tend to tense up your muscles.

Oh man, so sorry to see this! The main thing is you're OK...car skin is easy to replace, human skin isn't. I think the repair estimate will be close to replacement, so as others have said, it will be the luck of the draw on how the numbers fall.

I always admired your car here on the forum, so if you have to go the repair route make sure you search out the best repair shop so she's back to perfection. Keep us all posted.
