Driving through rain puddle

Hey guys,

I was driving home from work today and it was raining pretty badly. There was an accident so traffic was redirected through a detour. I ended up cutting through a side street/parking lot area to go the way I needed to head. The puddle I drove through seemed extremely deep. I couldn't see exactly how deep it was but I was going very slow through it. I could even smell almost like a lake/algae smell when going through it.

After I drove out and hit the main road I was a little worried that I might have done damage to my electronic system/engine from hitting such a deep puddle. Is there anyway to know if I did any damage? Everything seemed normal after, but I'm still a little worried.

Thanks.

The car is driving fine? Be careful it's going to spontaniously combust soon

I realize the car is fine now, but could it have done any damage to anything? Possibly the electrical system, etc?

I just thought it might cause problems down the line maybe in a few days, few weeks, few months...etc.

Like I said, water dries, it doesn't get wetter

I.e. Sometimes batteries/phones are salvageable even if they've been fully submerged in water given enough time to dry

unless you have injen cold air intakes -- you're fine. what years your car? '10+ and your fogs might have gotten a little wet - they're weather sealed though. if they're still working, you're in the clear. don't freak

Even if he had Injens if his engine didn't seize then and there he's perfectly fine

Only "damage" I can think of would be some premature rusting. Personally I got some squeaking coming from my sway bar bushings after I drove over a big puddle recently. Lubed it up and it's all better now.

Not to scare you and im not lying like others haha, but I drove through a puddle actually several large ones during a downpour and my electronics stopped working. The HVAC, radio, speedometer, etc were all off. i pulled over and turned the car off and then it would not turn on, i let it sit for 10 minutes until it did! I try to avoid big puddles these days.

A person at work with a 2009 MB E300 drove through a large "lake" last year. He said the water didn't come up to the floor - perhaps mid wheel level. He didn't realize the size of the Puddle. Unfortunately, It FRIED the electronics in the wonderfull Mercedes - GEICO totalled the car. now has a new one 2010 E350 with some costs and deductibles out of pocket..

Gotta be careful ...These are Cars NOT Jeeps... Bravo to Infiniti for being able to withstand the water better than that MB.

I got one better, I know someone with a Dodge SUV and water got into his differential and burned it up about 1k later... When the dealer investigated it said they found water in the differential fluid and would not cover it under warranty.... They stated that in the manual (and confirmed) that the "SUV" could not go in more than 4 inches of water!!!!!! Now you know why Dodge is 1 step from going out of business... Yea this is a true story - he ultimately had insurance cover it - luck as it was like 2k worth of repairs.

Anyway... I agree avoid "puddles" larger than above the ground effects.
