Rock Chips on ROOf?

Definitely not as good paint as on my mid-nineties Q45. Not even as good as Subaru's notoriously thin paint. I love the car, but I commute the same route as the previous Q45, A4, three Subarus, and the chips on this car are bigger per hit, and much more frequent. Definitely should have clear-bra'ed it, but too late now after 7 months. Had a bolt hit the hood, then windshield two months ago, had the windshield replaced and the hood resprayed, and have three more dings and a windshield chip since.

I can not wait to get rid of this car. I have found about 2 dozen more rock chips since I originally posted this thread... in all the time owning my 3 TLs, I mint have had a dozen rock chips between all the cars

The chip problem is why I had a clear bra installed on my 09 G37xS. Not one chip since. I had my 05 G coupe for several months before I had a bra put on that car and it got a few chips that were fixed before the bra. Its something that I will do in the furture for whatever brand car I buy.

I would have to clear bra the whole car. I have rock chips on the roof (I seldom end up under trees so it's not from acorns or tree branches and I park in a garage), front fenders by the doors, and rock chips on the doors too.... I SHOULD not have to put my car in a bubble...

The self-healing paint feature has nothing to do w/ the abysmal paint chipping problem. It has a "pliable" clear coat that will float out light scratches & swirls if kept out in the sun. It does exactly that but nothing more. I think I'm going for a vinyl wrap on my hood, just fixing the chips right now won't help at all for the 50 more chips just waiting to fly off this thing

I go through numerous forums and everyone forum has the same complaints. Everyone hates the chipping problems with their paint. Water based paints are here to stay so dont expect it to get any better anytime soon. Chevy, Ford, BMW, Ferrari... they are having chipping problems.

Actually I have very few chips in 14,000 miles.....comparable to other cars I have owned. That said, the quality of the paint job is sub par - a lot of orange peel.
