Best method to get cheapest XM rate?
What is the best method to get the cheapest rates for the basic XM package. I just got an update offer that is $142.45 a year. I'm fairly sure I've read that some owner's have only had to pay $70 something a year.

when my 3 month promo that came with the car expired, they offered me $75 for a year. I'm up for renewal now and it's back to around $150 a year. I think if you call to cancel and tell them the reason you are cancelling is because the price is too high, they might lower it.

Play hard to get if you have a subscription let it expire then they will flood you with discount offers to come back. Ignore the first offers and the price will continue to drop until you get a deal like I got 5 months for $25.00

$78 for two years is the best rate I've ever heard of. I assume this is radio in the car, only. I believe they have other packages.
The bottom line is that you have to call and be willing to drop the service in order get the best deal. Tell them you don't use it all that much, etc... and they will transfer you around. Or, try asking for this $78/2 deal, that's outstanding.
Best I've been able to get 3x in a row now is $25 for 5 months, and that deal (for me) requires that they will keep a credit card on file for renewal, and if you don't call before it expires to renegotiate or cancel, they will renew you for one year at their standard list price - so be sure to set a good reminder!

I got $78 for the past and current year. Mine was set to renew at the $18 a month or whatever and I called them and told them I was cancelling if I didn't get $78 for the year. They said they couldn't do it and transferred me to someone else to finish the cancellation. That person then offered me the $78 for the year.

As far as getting the $77 deal, no need to cancel first or even play hardball, just tell them you want the $77 deal, if they don't agree ask to talk to someone higher up or you'll cancel altogether (well I guess that's a little hardball )

Yep - like others have said, wait until the 3 month promo expires. They will call you relentlessly and will offer to get you back at 1/2 off the normal yearly rate (which will be $77/yr). Then you're all set. You could always ask them if they would be willing to throw in the online player for free. I did and they said yes.

I just renewed my contract, I have 3 accounts- 2 of them standard, and my G has premium package including nav traffic and weather. I got into a dispute with XM and told them I will pay $300 dollars total for all 3 accounts or I was cancling and they agreed! So I think I got an awesome deal figuring that my G's account retails for $350+by itself.
