Don't think he meant $78 for 2 years, I think it's $78/yr w/ a 2 yr commitment.
As far as getting the $77 deal, no need to cancel first or even play hardball, just tell them you want the $77 deal, if they don't agree ask to talk to someone higher up or you'll cancel altogether (well I guess that's a little hardball

)I'll stick with my $25 for 5 months then, that comes out to $5 per month. $77 for 12 months is $6.41 per month (but that may be easier than messing with the renewal every 5 months!).

I just renewed my contract, I have 3 accounts- 2 of them standard, and my G has premium package including nav traffic and weather. I got into a dispute with XM and told them I will pay $300 dollars total for all 3 accounts or I was cancling and they agreed! So I think I got an awesome deal figuring that my G's account retails for $350+by itself.

I call XM every 3 months to cancel...then call back 5 min later to renew it. Everytime I call to "renew" I say I just bought the car and the dealer promised me 3 months of XM radio free. Honestly I don't use the XM radio. I just enjoy the traffic feature.

Tom, call in and tell them it is too expensive and you can't afford it. They will then offer you a deal which ends up being $85 with tax etc. I had the same renewal option you did.

Thanks for the replies. I called and the best I could do was $30.89, which included taxes, for 5 months. When the 5 months are up I'll call the cancellation dept and see what they offer. I tried to get the $77 a year for 2 years, but no luck. I'm hoping I can get that when I call up to cancel after the 5 month deal.
