2011 G37X: AC too cold?

2011 G37X: AC too cold?
Here is an odd problem...was driving the other day and noticed that it was getting cold in the car. Really cold. System was set to "auto" and 72 degrees. The outside temp was at 68 degrees (cool day, had been in the 80's the two days prior). I had to dial the set temp up to ~82 degrees before the AC shut off.
Where is the indoor temp sensor on this car? It seems that it isn't registering very well.

My AC blows nice and cold. Once I've cooled down, I usually have it set around 76 when driving around in 95-105 outdoor temps. I've never really considered it a problem, especially considering how crappy the AC was on my old car.

I bought my car in January, and it has ~ 5000 miles on it. This is the first time the auto-temp system screwed up, and it has been screwed up for the past 2 days.
Um... why don't I just drive around all day with my temp set to 82? Because I don't want my car heat on in June. I would sort of selfishly like to get something other than "hotter than 80" and "cooler than 60". Honestly, with the AC blowing full-speed my interior felt like it was approaching 50 degrees.
My guess is that the internal temp sensor is whacky, or is being covered by something, or (as suggested) maybe is being heated by the sun giving a bad reading.
So, again, does anyone know where the sensors for this are in this car? I'll ask about it next time I'm at the dealer. Maybe their tech will tell me to drive with one hand on the steering wheel and one hand on the temperature ****!

Mine is like that too. I have an 11 G37XS sedan. If i am hot when i get in the car, and put it on 60, it wont even blow full air(but its cold). However, when i cool down and put it on 75(its still cold!), it raises the air speed.

Here's a hint for you: Turning the **** to 82 won't turn on the heat unless it's cold outside and in the car. If it did, you would counteract that by...wait for it...turning down the temperature a bit.
I never have to turn mine lower than 68 or higher than 76. I consider that an acceptable range, especially considering the fact that the car will cool down from blistering hot in a minute or so with the air blasting. Please please PLEASE don't make them dumb this car down so your psychological ticks are satisfied by never having to turn the **** past 72.

My G has a strong AC which I appreciate, especially on 100 degree days. That said, I maintain the temperature at 78 or the cabin becomes to cool. In the winter I seldom turn the thermostat above 68. I don't think the auto temp control is good in our Gs

You guys are going to complain about the a/c in this car until the bean counters save a few pennies and put in a smaller/cheaper compressor. The a/c is AMAZING in the G - it's cold almost immediately, which is better than most cars.

And i for one, am not complaning. I like it...Its just hard to get used to coming from a car that when set to a temperature, ACTUALLY put that temperature out through the vents! I know, crazy concept!

I have owned quite a few cars with auto climate control. The G37 has the worse system, by far. The air does gets extremely cold, which should be a plus, but the auto climate doesn't regulate the temperature properly. On a longer trip I am constantly resetting the temperature, something I rarely had to do with the other cars I,ve owned.

I think the AC has been on so long and so cold that some people have had their brains frozen. I'd say take a chill pill but maybe instead you should just sit in your car, set the temp to 72, and wait for the ice to form.
Let me try and break this down into smaller concepts:
- The AC in this car blows cold fast. That is a good capability and no one is complaining about it.
- The auto climate control doesn't work. This is disturbing because the logic "if desired temp is lower than measured temp, turn A/C on" isn't that complicated. There are at least three possible reasons for this:
1. The logic is bad. Maybe a defect in the electronics board.
2. The sensors are bad or cheap. I am inclined to think they used too cheap sensors.
3. The sensors are placed in some stupid place where they stay warm.
- precisely because the AC is so immediately cold, I am freezing in my car. Again, outside temp measures at 99. AC is set to 75. My arms are numb and I'm chattering and my best guess is that the temp inside the car is in the low 60's again. Why do I let it get that cold? I'm honestly curious as to how bad it will get before the "auto" system figures out it is failing miserably at a basic function.
- Turning the car temp up absolutely does turn the heat on. It's called auto climate control. The problem is the sensors driving the "auto" part of this are whacky on my car.
- Lastly, I have had to turn mine above 76. 82 in fact (just to be clear here, 82 is bigger than 76).
So if someone has anything constructive to say, please let's discuss. If someone wants to continue to be unhelpful, please migrate to the AT threads and tell them to get over their psychological tick and just drive in Manual all the time.
