I have been using BJs Premium gas so far on my 2011 G37X (3K miles on it)....I have always been averaging 24 mpg on my standard 25 miles drive @ 45 mph..I normally reset the MPG on the dash everytime I take this trip....I decided to switch to Shell V Power yesterday and went to the same drive....I was amazed to see I was getting 27 MPG....The only time I got a high MPG was when I went on a 420 mile highway trip averaging 26 mpg...
Is Shell Vpower really that good or is it just me??
For those who dont know, BJs is a wholesale club offering cheap gas too...
Sorry if this is something that has been discussed over and over again...
If it's repeatable, great. Maybe a tailwind that helped, keep a check on a couple of tankfuls. Usually us X owners get dinged an MPG or two for carrying around the front diff and transfer case.
LOL...Shell seems to be much better dude...i am checking it ou on my camry too...if i really get a 2-3 mpg difference overs BJs, i am sticking with shell for sure...
I get about 19 mpg city. I got almost 25 mpg driving to vegas averaging 80+ mph. And that's pretty much all uphill until that drastic drop.
I use to live in Kansas. When I would take trips to the mountains in Colorado I always got better mileage, with whatever car I owned at the time, as the altitude increased, basically meaning I was driving uphill. I'm not talking about climbing a steep mountain, just driving while the altitude gradually became higher.
When I drove in Kansas and the other non-mountainous states close by the mileage wouldn't be as good.
I assume by having leaner air at higher altitudes the FI system altered the gas mixture. I don't know if that's the reason.
Driving and getting good mileage in Florida certainly isn't from higher altitude since my driving here is at sea level.
The Shell gas probably does not have any ethanol in it. A lot of gas is mixed with up to 10% ethanol and the gas station does not have to tell you on the pump.

Where do you live? Every place I've been it shows if there's ethanol in the gas.
There is only one gas station anywhere near to where I live that sells gas without ethanol in it. They started off just supplying boats and mariners, but now anyone can go in and top off.
They sell 90 octane without ethanol. I go there periodically and fill up 4 to 6, 5 gallon gas cans for use in my boat. It is far enough away that it's not worth my while to go there to fill up my cars or motorcycle every time they need gas, so I fill them up any place that's handy.
