The difference in gas mileage can be drastic in this car. I carpool with a co worker and during the week that I drive I average between 22 and 24 Mpg on our 44 mile round trip to work(60% highway, 40% city). But on the weeks that I dont drive I only average between 16 and 19 mpg on the short trips I take to the store or the gym(100%city).

On a recent round trip from Central NJ to NE CT, I got 29.4 mpg. I was surprised as I never got more than 25 mpg on the xS (even on a long trip from NJ to FL). Must have been a strange confluence of the right brand of gas, relatively flat roads, cooler weather and keeping the speed to about 70 mph (didn't want the local CT revenue officer taxing my trip to CT).
The car is usually doing local duty - 10 miles of local driving and I'm getting about 17 mpg.

[quote=JJsBusaRox;3144185]I use nothing but Shell or Chevron. I don't think saving a couple of bucks to use cheaper, no name brand fuel is worth it.[/quote
I live in Atlanta, GA, and I primary use Costco premium gas and also use Racetrack. I am not sure which brand Costco uses, but honestly I don't have preference over which over what. As long as I can get cheapest premium gas, I am okay with that.

I normally use Arco because it's usually the cheapest. I have used Arco, Chevron, Costco and Shell gasoline in the car and the differences from each are negligible, in my experience.

I only run Exxon. I do a lot of highway driving, so i can actually monitor fuel consumption since im going through a full tank once a week. I average about 28 mpg on the interstate at 65 mph with the a/c on. I cannot comment on city driving because honestly, i dont really do much of it. My house and work are both right off the interstate and my times of travel are very low on traffic....none at all in the morning. For some reason, Shell gasoline around here is 20 cents higher per gallon on average than every other leading gas station ( Chevron, Exxon, Valero). So even if i got 1 more mpg with Shell the cost does not warrant it.

i seem to be avging 17.7mpg whether it's highway or city... on shell v-power... I don't think I've ever seen 400mi... even on a trip to napa...
I mean I drive conservatively and aggressively, but regardless both driving styles hit a max 320mi tank before i get *** on the dash.
so i think consider urself fortunate... lol

My wife and I leave June 10th, on a 19 day, 3,700 mile trip. The trunk and back seat will be full of luggage and other stuff, so I'm sure the car will have the weight of approx. 4 people in it. The airconditioner, as always, will be on the full time.
I took a similar trip last year and averaged 28 mpg. I usually drive 80mph on the interstate and 70+, on the 2 lanes.
I fill up at whatever gas stations are handy, with no concern about brand names.
The highway mileage I get seems pretty amazing. It makes me wonder what the car would get if I slowed down to 70 on the interstate and 60 to 65 on the 2 lanes with the a/c off and a lot less luggage.

I saw a program on TV about Fuel Refineries and after the fuel is refined it goes to these terminals where the Tankers fill up to distribute to the Stations. This terminal may belong to Exxon but there are trucks there filling up with fuel from Shell, Valero, Fina, Texaco...etc. They actually showed the trucks with Shell emblazoned on the side of the trailer filling up at a Exxon terminal. So when you see these BS commercials about Techron ,or any other additive for that matter it's all a flame job you don't know who actually refined the oil to make fuel for your car. Don't fall for my gas is better than your gas BS.
