Little Tab Key

Hello,

Just got my G37 on Saturday and had a question. When they handed me the keys, one of them had attached a little rectangular metal tab, very small in size with some numbers in it.

What is it ?

Thanks

Hmm... I have it too.. they all do. I remember the salesman telling me, but can't recall what. Radio security code maybe?

I believe that it is the code that will allow you to get additional 'keys". It is vehicle specific thus don't lose it

You need to keep this tab in a safe place. If you ever loose your key fobs, you need the number imprinted on the tab to get replacements.

It tells you right in the manual

A key number plate is supplied with your keys. Record the key number and keep it in a safe place (such as your wallet), not in the vehicle. If you lose your keys, see an INFINITI dealer for duplicates by using the key number. INFINITI does not record any key numbers so it is very important to keep track of your key number plate.

Yes, it's supposed to be part of the new car orientation. If it were me, I'd go back and demand new fobs with the code tag.

I've never seen or maybe haven't noticed this tab on any of my keys. The salesman never mentioned it either. But Im pretty sure you can have an extra key made with out it.

I read about this in the manual and noticed my dealer didnt supply it to me either. My strong suspicion is that they have it on file for me incase I need new keys. I suppose there are some security risks with this. I am certain if I went to the dealer and demanded it, they would provide.

I think its kinda like Honda/Acura and their radio setup.

If it came down to it you would provide your VIN directly to a service department (not over the phone) and they could verify the info directly with corporate and get your key number.

Now I have to go look for where I put that key tag
