Smile Custom Key installation job

Has anyone got any idea how to take the PROX key chip out of our key fobs and install it into a Keyport Slide?

According to their website, they claim it can't be done but how hard can it be? The chips just have to sit inside the keyport box right?

It would be awesome if this could be done...

It's not the key chip that allows you to open the door and start the engine. The intelligent key system detects signal from the remote. You would have to fit the entire remote inside for it to work. And it's an entire circuit board with a battery. You cannot trim any of it off or it would not longer work.

The chip inside the key is only for when the intelligent key remote runs out of battery. Then you insert the remote to the slot, thats the only time that the car reads off the Key chip.

Yeah i dont see any benefit in that thing. It's bigger than the intelligent remote, which takes up more room in the pocket. Even if you fit the circuit board inside, you would lose all the remote buttons; cant vent windows anymore.

08 and up ikeys do not have a transponder chip in the keys...no need for the transponder since there is no way to start th car with a physical key.

That's not at all true. When the battery dies in the remote, how do you start the car? By putting it in the slot where it uses an RFID chip (non-powered) to be able to start the car. The car doesn't power the remote in the slot, it's just a position for it to be able to read the RFID chip inside it.

The slot works under the assumption you use your car on a typical basis. Not let it sit a for a few years. As your battery runs low to dead your signal range is greatly reduced. When you walk up to the car and it won't unlock you can use the key in the door. When your inside there may not be enough power from the fob for the car to see it. The slot has a high directivity antenna pointed right on the key fob. This way the weak signal can be received and the car will start. If your battery gets removed or the remote sat for years and years and the battery is absolutely dead then your screwed. I have never needed to use the slot because when the dash has the your battery is low indicator on start up. I immediately change my battery.

According to what youre saying, then I wouldnt be able to start the car if I took out the battery from the remote.

I dont think you're right. There is in a RFID chip inside the key, I've removed it before. I think you dont even need to insert the remote into the slot. If you take out the key and just stick it into the slot, the car should start.

I'll give this a test next time I get in the car.
