I notice when i stop sometimes with the heating on, a strange burned rubber smell. It's seems to be located on the front passenger side. I thought may be it was my winter floor matt, but i smelt them and NO.

No sign of leak or missing cooling liquid. Do you know where transmission is located ?, could it be the transmission. I noticed that when i drive the car in a sporty way.

Here it's winter and cold, so it's not due to the tires.

Transmission is located in the center of the car directly behind the engine in front of the gearshift. Do u have manual or auto?

Winter tires always smelled for me also. They get really hot and easily get soft. That's a large reason they're so effective in cold weather traction.

Oh and the smell is probably just wafting in when you turn on the heating.

are you sure ? when i touch them it doesn t feel hot

does anyone know what is the color of our oil transmission ?

Just bring it in to the dealer and have them figure it out for you for free.

I have noticed that too on occasion. Not a burned rubber smell, but a "heat" type smell if that makes any sense... Weird. Maybe from heated seats? I'm gong to try it w/o heating the seats, but I thought maybe that it could be related to the Tranny fluid too. Just got my car back from Dealer ( I brought it back to keep complaining about the Lagging / Auto tranny issues even with the Reflash), tranny fluid is good and filled to proper level all fluids were checked - all in specs and full. I also complained about a strong exhaust odor at cold engine start up, not gas, not rotten egg smell, but a strong exhaust type smell. They checked it - normal.

I don't think it's the snow tires, since I have a similar odor on my 3 month old convertible and I'm in Florida!

me too, no snow tires. But the smell is not a Burning Rubber smell. It's almost like a hot Coolant smell -intermittently. dealer can't find anything as of last week.

I get this smell everytime I drift through snow covered parking lots. I thought is was just a new car smell...maybe not. I notice the smell near the driver/passenger doors. Could it be the differential?

I get the same thing when I drive it hard. I just assumed it was hot brakes.

My G has the burning rubber smell intermittently. No snow tires, just the stock AS tires. It's not from within the cabin, definitely from outside, could be from the engine compartment, exhaust, etc., but cannot locate the exact source. The dealer could not reproduce the problem. They checked everything and found nothing abnormal.

Based on my observation, the only time I get the smell is when the road is wet, especially on salty winter roads.
