I got mine for something like $35,500 OTD. That's black on black, prem/nav, but not wooden trim. That's also for the Sedan not the Coupe.
I live in Oregon, so there is no sales tax. I transferred plates, so that lowered my tag fee as well.
It was a special situation so I'm not sure if that's a realistic price basis, unless others have gotten similar pricing. I have not done any real comparison shopping.

I don't think comparing OTD price is meaningful because sales tax differs so much. I think a fair comparison point is the total amount paid excluding taxes and government fees.

$37.5 doesn't seem bad at all. Not sure on the $40k.
It also kind of depends on if you financed, leased, traded-in with negative equity, etc.
Again, mine was a special case involving what I'd consider a lemon the first time around, and a lot of dealer back and forth about my situation. Having worked a little in finance myself, I know they're really making a bit back on the finance-end, so my $35.5 shouldn't really be compared apples to apples.

It also depends heavily on where you live. You'll probably be able to get a better deal at a medium sized city. But of course there are exceptions to everything and factors such as season, age of model year, age of generation can play large parts in the overall price of the car.
