24K service

So what do we really need to do for this minor service?Other than oil, filter, check the air filters...is there anything else that is relevant?

Don't feel like getting hosed at the dealership,so your input is appreciated.

30k will be your major service. These are just inspections, oil and filter.

^ if you can't DIY, then take it to an independent shop. combine that with doing any simple filter changes by yourself (air & cabin) and you'll save a bunch of ca$h. your warranty will not be voided. just keep all service records.

going this route will probably cost you $2-300 instead of ~$700 you mentioned.

The stuff you can DIY, DIY. When I do any of my major services I will provide my own parts and have the dealer install them (better not charge me any labor for air filters lol). I use to do everything myself with my old cars and still do for our Honda Fit, but I prefer to just have the dealer fix any issue that would potentially arise if they mess up. Not to mention your maintenance records will show you've gotten the work done with Infiniti.

If you're out of warranty (or even in warranty for that matter), that's a good thing as they would be more likely to goodwill (or warranty it with no questions asked) something as opposed to someone coming in with no records and wanting something done.

Find an independent shop to work on your car maintenance. you will save a lot and also get the work done on your car.

Service Question

So I've had my G37XS since October and now have 36,000kms on it and it's due for another service.

I'm having a hard time believing that I would need to replace the cabin filter, air filter and a few other things listed as required for this service.

Given the short time period but km that have been put on (all highway pretty much) shouldn't this be taken into consideration ?

I don't want the stealer charging me big bucks for things I don't need, its too damn cold to do the work outside by myself this time of year.

Asking for some suggestions ?

^ due to the short time period you are probably OK to wait on the cabin filter until it warms up in your area so you can DIY. but at 36k kms i'd recommend you change out the air filters. it's not urgent, but the air filters are so simple that even if it's cold outside you can do this in less time then it takes to check your engine oil level. don't bother with a bunch of other crap that the stealership is suggesting. just follow the required maintenance in the owner's manual - that's what will keep your warranty valid.

there are a few more items required at 48k kms, but at 36k kms (especially with the short time period) you don't need anything major done.

I noticed the replacement items are only oil, filter and air filters.
But there is a huge list of 'inspection' items. Is this where they just milk the bottom line by 'having a look'?

Yes, but many people believe that their cars run better if they pay extra to have a tech stare blankly at the underside of the car for a moment, bearing in mind that they will do that anyway while they're working on your car.

To the point, I bet you won't find many people that have warranty repairs done as a result of those inspections. Also, if you turn to the back of your trusty owner's manual, you'll find the FREE inspections they do with any service. If paying for same makes you feel better, then please do so...someone has to subsidize the donuts.

They are going to inspect all those items for free?
How will they make their coin?

Thanks anyway for the advice.

By finding stuff that needs to be done to your car and getting you to pay for it.
