Anyone consider a B7 S4 before getting their G37xS?
Hey all - first post here. I did a little searching to see if anyone made a thread like this, but not much luck. I'm in the market for a 4 door AWD sedan. I have a GTO that I drive during the summers here in Minnesota, but it's time to have a car payment on something nice that I can drive all year long!
I've been doing some research and looking at some 2007-2008 Audi S4's with a CPO warranty and like them a lot. I was just curious if anyone was in my situation and decided to go with a G37xS? It seems like you can find a nice 2010 with 10-20k miles for around 30,000. Just hoping someone can share their experiences....thanks a lot!

I considered a B8 S4. My homegirl works for Audi and they were willing to do 500 over invoice and a great deal on my trade plus pretty low interest on the financing.
I cruised the Audi boards and was ready to jump ship, but I wanted to keep the car for a while (past a lease term) and that's what scared me away.
I never looked at an xS. Glad I have my G, despite the S4 being beautiful! B7 has the V8 too, nice engine.

The repair frequency and reliability for B7 S4's is terrible, no matter what source you look at (well, except for Audi forums, where they all claim they are great in spite of the zillions of threads describing problems--strange what ownership does to rational thinking ;o)).
The repair frequency of the G37 is very low, among the best.
To give an idea from one source (truedelta.com), the B7 S4 has 102 repair trips per year per 100 vehicles, while the 2010 G37 has 12 trips per year per 100 vehicles.
Obviously the average amount of time in the shop isn't the only thing to consider when buying a car, but it definitely shouldn't be ignored when it's poor.

While not a S4 I have a B7 A4 2.0Tq and I am in the final stages of a repurchase with Audi. GREAT car, but there are way too many known issues with the B7 platform. Audi a a company has treated me very well. This was my first non-Nissan/Infiniti product in 8 cars. Needless to say I'm coming back to Infiniti, looking at a G of course.

Dan,
Go with the Infiniti. The Audi's just don't cut it. They are a trendy, unreliable junk box. Too many issues with the B7 platform. You'll be much happier with the G.

I SOOO wish Audi had a better reliability record, I just love pretty much every car & SUV they make lately, even the A3 is a pretty cool little wagon. Their interiors are the best for their price point and they are a very classy looking vehicle up & down their lineup. I will seriously be considering a 2010/2011 CPO S4/S5 in the 2012 timeframe if they can show some decent improvement in their reliability scores. The V6 seems to be getting pretty good reviews compared to the somewhat problematic V8 in the earlier S4s. It's also getting pretty decent mileage for the high hp rating, something to consider now that gas is back on a collision course towards 4 bucks a gallon

Time will tell. The interiors are awesome. One of the biggest issues they face today is carbon buildup in the FSI (direct injection) motors. I will happily look at Audi again when they get the quality in check.

I had a 2006 A3 before the G and loved it. No major problems what so ever. A lot of the issues reported are things such as power windows or AC condensor (i didn't have problems with either), that are not mechanical. The current A6 is just awsome. Driving both cars, they are totally different. ANd both great cars, the G does not compare to handling and overall driving experience.

Some people will say at least it's under warranty, but after you have to take a car back and forth to the dealership numerous times reliability becomes one of your main concerns when you buy future cars.
They use to sell bumper stickers for old Jaguars that just said "But when it runs". That sticker would fit perfect on a lot of German cars.

my friend just sold his '05 S4. he was cleaning up his files and found his service records for the past 2 1/2 years. $5200!!! that's a brake job and various filter and fluid changes. i think he had a couple other minor problems dealt with, but nothing huge. $5200 was pretty much all regular maintenance items. next on the list was a clutch job that was quoted at almost $4k! luckily he traded in before that expense.
as sexy as the S4 sounded with that V8, it wasn't worth the rediculous Audi services. too bad for him he traded it in on an Acura TL front wheel drive. talk about a big step backwards! torque steer city!
