These pictures aren't mind but they look similar to my condition, funny thing is they're both silver and mine is also a silver. One difference is the rust spots on mine aren't on the edges.

That'll happen with any car if you get a chip that goes down to the bare metal and you don't repair it.

No. It's less than 3 months old, just passed break-in.

I wonder if it's just silver paint or if other colours have the same problem but just don't show up as easily.
Must be the silvers...

There was no chip, it's coming out from the inside.

Sorry for the crappy pictures but if you'll get the idea...there's no chip, just rust coming out from the inside.

This seems like a warranty issue. Just take it to the dealer.

Got ya!

But seriously, take it back to the dealer and have them fix it under warranty.

No for the last time your car does not have scratch shield paint. ONLY 2009 and 2011 models do. It was take away for the 2010 model year. Everyone knows this. Why they took it away for 2010, no one knows. Either way YOUR CAR DOESN'T HAVE IT. Your car just uses plain auto paint, nothing else really to it.

I'm not arguing that it does, I only thought that it does, what's the big deal? Whether it does or not does not change the fact that I don't want them to repaint a 3 month old car. I'll see the dealer tomorrow...

Let us know what the dealer has to say, especially if there is a known problem with 2010 silver infiniti paint.

Yes, please keep us posted. I have a 2010 platinum ice coupe with about 4000 kms. So far no rust spots.

Are you sure 2011 models have it? I can't find any mentioning of self-healing paint in the 2011 model specs. Also, the car salesperson who sold me the car said there is no difference between the 2010 and 2011 models for the G sedans in the US, other than the addition of G25.

"Changes for 2011 include:
* New “Limited Edition” models with unique exterior and interior treatments, along with sport-tuned steering
* New “Sport Appearance” models with sporty exterior features
* Scratch Shield Paint standard on all models
* One new exterior color: Malbec Black"

...and a quote from a 2010 article;

"Cross-Linking Clear Coat paint replaces Scratch Shield paint."

Thanks. It's not even advertised on Infiniti USA's web site.

I went to the dealer today but their warranty advisor wasn't around. In fact, this group of companies owns many dealership, and it seems like they only have ONE warranty advisor for all the dealerships. I talked to the sales consultant that I bought the car from. He took some pictures and said that he's gonna send them to the advisor and let me know what happens next. He said that likely they'll just replace the trunk since the rust appeared before the car is even 3 month old. Of course, it'd be up to the warranty advisor. I won't take repaint as an answer though. Non-factory paint job is just not the same.

At the base of your hood (under hood, closest to the windshield) there should be a sticker indicating scratch shield paint.

Also, are you seriously listening to the salesperson? While there may be a few salespeople who know what they are talking about, the vast majority know just enough to fool the customers who don't know jack about cars. Do not believe anything the salesperson says.
