I live in SoCal. No need for it, here. Where I live it snowed 1 time in the last 10 years and it melted within a couple hours.

i made it through the winter with my g37s sedan with michelin X-ice's all around. only got stuck once, at the end of my driveway, after a 1 ft snowfall overnight, with a giant pile of snow left at the end of the driveway by the snowplow.

Me too, but with Hankook Ice Bear tires. Now I have the summer tires back on and the car feels great. The sidewall stiffness is so much better on summer tires and the steering is more responsive. Every year I forget how tires can make the car feel better (or worse). Say "no" to all-season tires and "yes" to dedicated season tires. An added benefit is that the OEM wheels never see road salt and look brand new.

AWD For The Mountains

I ski a lot in the winter and there are absolutely times when having AWD is a must. If you are driving up a mountain road in a snowstorm, RWD is not very good.

Went through a Canadian winter with my G37S. Never got stuck. Rolling on X-Ice 18s. Never took the G to go skiing though... The G is my daily driver and I put about 22000 mi on her per year...

The comment can be factually made without being sexist. many women, my wife included are not car mechanically included or motivated to learn more on defensive driving, handling dynamics, etc. she leaves maintenance up to me and as much driving as possible.

My wife is secretary of her garden club, past chair of the altar guild, drives her third WRX, and keeps her own maintenance calendar and makes her own appointments.

She just wants you to feel superior. She's autocrossing while you're at work.

I drove my M in the winter time this last year, 17" snow tires, 245s all around. As a rear wheel drive car I was able to plow through snow without a problem...literally snow coming up over my bumper It handled the snow better than my fwd Accord thats quite a few years old. Gotta love the VDC, the extra weight definitely helped out too, I believe that manuals are even easier to drive in the winter time cuz you can choose the perfect gear and start out slower if need be. ie starting in 2nd or 3rd is easier than first since you have a lesser chance of spinning starting out. I have no qualms about driving a rwd car here in MN, record snowfalls this year and the M did great! Our snow plow budget was blown before December was over. My room mate got stuck in his M35x ....but more so because he assumed that having the X gave him more ability...(false sense of security)
