RWD is fine in the snow

Both my 2007 G35 sedan (auto) and my 2010 G37S coupe (6speed) sucks horrible in winter driving.
I thought that with the G37S having LSD (over my 07 which didnt), woudl be much better, but its pretty much the same. I am running 18" Blizzak LM-25's on my G37 (had LM60's on my G35 sedan), and it sucks badly.
My 300C RWD on the other hand with cheap @ss 18" winter tires, would go through ANYTHING AND EVERYTHIGN. The traction control and vehicle stability is 10000% better over any infiniti design (i am also including my dad's 03 M45 as well). I think it is due in part to the system actually being similar to the Benz E-class system (my dad had the Eclass as well).
All in all, i wish i had AWD, but they had no 6 speed manual. But its all good, i just drive sideways all the time to go straight and the one thing is despite the slipping, the G37S is very well behaved and controlled. Its very hard to lose control even with VDC off in the worst weather because after the rear swings out, you can tuck it right back in easly.

So what you're saying is having a winter set for winter and a summer set for the rest of the year - and thus having the best possible tire on your car all year around - is too much to ask for the average person?
I agree! It just makes too much sense for the average person to comprehend.

Actually not everyone lives in a house where they have plenty of storage to keep an extra set of tires. Instead most people in the north would rather get an AWD with a good set of all-seasons (thats why they sell a lot more AWD versions of cars then RWD). How many people do you think that live in downtown chicago or NYC live in houses? Most live in apts/condos. Would you really want to keep a set of spare tires in your living room? (no garages unless you buy a parking spot which can cost around 25-40k) Maybe you could use the spare tires as your couch! Do you really think people want to rent a storage unit to keep their winter tires in? So I guess the average person does comprehend it quite well.
Personally I have had no problems with my AWD G with all-seasons in michigan weather. I have had problems in the past with RWD all-seasons. The choice is pretty clear for me. If I had lived in a city like Buffalo, NY, then of course I would have snow tires on an AWD and finding a way to store the tires. In the end it all depends on where you live and how much snow you really get.

To me what you wrote means that the person has the choice and choose not to for whatever reason... doesn't like the idea, lazy, cost or whatever...
If you have said "the average person doesn't have the space to store a set of extra tires" it would have been a different argument. Actually, no argument at all, I agree with you.

Idiocracy. Better believe it. The Quebec Government has made it illegal to drive with non-winter tyres during.... winter. It's amazing to me that some people use to try to save a few hundred bucks in exchange for a significant decrease in safety in a location where winters can get pretty torrid.

Not sure how this relates to socialism. The tires are not provided free by the government.

Drove the my G37x in snow for the first time last night....did well, though the Goodyear RSAs are not particularly great. Also drove my wife's new Highlander AWD for comparison...it does even better..the Toyo tires on the Toyota provide better traction than the Goodyears. Then I took my daughters' 04 V6 mustang with new all season tires to the gas station for a fill. While it braked comparable to the G, acceleration and handling was what I expected...poor. I suspect a RWD G would do better than the mustang because of traction control and VDC, but there is no doubt AWD is a big plus in winter weather (and wet weather also).

The driver's ability is the biggest variable in winter driving. But people are more keen to blame their vehicle or the other drivers than their own luck of skills. Some, call this.... human nature??

My G37S sedan had no issues last winter with my Blizzak's LM-60. Drove through every storm except for the first which happened over the weekend. So far this year we've had 2 storms. Was not out for the first one, but had no issues at all on the second one.
Also I used to own an 08xS which I drove on the same exact roads back in 08 with the stock all-season Dunlops. My current RWD car with the winter tires without a doubt, drives, steers and brakes better compared to my 08 with the all season tires. The only thing the 08 did better was starting from a hill. But once under way the car with the winter tires is easier to drive.
If you drive in the snow get winter tires. The better breaking performance alone makes it worth the price.

Here's an article about the theft this law is encouraging: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/montreal/st...tires1031.html
You can be also be sure this law was lobbied STRONGLY by certain tire manufacturers.

Guys,
Just got home in about an inch of snow and sleet. 08 coupe s auto, I have Yoko Avid A/S and four sandbags, four textbook, and two laptops... I left our parking garage and no slip or sliding at all. Course I did 25-30 mph all the way home. I didn't even see the traction lights. I am too worried, new to the car since Xmas. D-

Also I forgot to add I don't carry any extra weight in my trunk. In fact my trunk is always empty, except on trips or food shopping. Just make sure you have at least 3/4 of a tank of gas and that will add sufficient weight to your rear.
